This custom - designed packageof efficiency measures can reduce fuel consumptionby up to 23 % : various aerodynamicand energy - management measures are implementedindividually for each model to maximisesavings in each case. The PRE - SAFE preventive occupant protection system can recognisecritical driving situations in advance andthen initiate preventive measures in order to protectthe occupants : the side windows and the panoramicglass roof can be closed, the front passengerseat moved into a more favourable positionand the seat belts electromotorically tensioned.PRE - SAFE Brake ( optional in conjunction withDISTRONIC PLUS ). If a vehicle in front brakesabruptly or if the coupé gets dangerously close,the PRE - SAFE Brake can initiate a partial brakeapplication. In so doing the system works togetherwith the DISTRONIC PLUS radar sensorswhich can recognise the imminent danger of acollision. The BAS PLUS also supports the driverwhen braking – in a manner appropriate to thesituation in hand.Airbags ( standard / optional ).
