On behalf of myself and the entire board, we would like to say thank
you to the previous Board of Directors, Mary Davis, RDCS, RCS, FASE;
Karen Keith, RDCS, RVT; Mary Anne Jacobsen, RCS; and with special
thanks to Luis Moriyon and Dr. Craig Brodsky, whom without their
vision, enthusiasm and countless hours of volunteering their time, this
society would not exist. We look forward to following in their
tremendous footsteps.

On August 14, 2003 Luis organized a group of people at Macaroni Grill
in Boynton Beach. There they discussed the objectives of the society
and invited people to volunteer for the board. Over the next month
the board had several meetings to set up by-laws and create the
corporation. The academic meetings followed.
Luis worked very hard to get the society launched and maintained a
list of people interested in attending the quarterly meetings. We again
thank Luis, Dr. Brodsky, Mary Davis, Karen Keith and Maryanne
Jacobsen. We look forward to your ongoing participation in the
society.

Meet the New
Board Members
Dr. Melhado studied medicine in his home country of El Salvador and completed training
in Cardiology at St. Vincent's Hospital, New York Medical College. He then held academic
appointment as Assistant Professor of Medicine, NYMC. Dr. Melhado is currently in
private practice in Wellington, FL (Cardiology Partners). He is certified in Internal
Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, and Echocardiography. He is a
fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of
Echocardiography. Dr. Melhado is one of the founding members of the Society of
Cardiovascular CT and a member of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
Judith previously served as the South Florida Echo Society Secretary and brings
thirteen years of adult and pediatric echocardiography experience to the society.
She is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography and the British
Society of Echocardiography and is committed to promoting the advancement of
echocardiography to the healthcare community. Judith currently provides
healthcare consulting services at Cardiology practices both locally and nationally.
Carolyn Crawford, MS, RDCS, CCT
Treasurer
Carolyn has worked in the healthcare field for twenty-eight years. She started as a
Medical assistant and has been performing and mentoring adult, pediatric, and fetal
echocardiography for nine years. She is a member of the ASE, the Fetal Medicine
Foundation, and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. She is now doing per
diem echocardiography and has become a member of the American Association of
Healthcare Consultants where she brings her expertise of practice management and
imaging accreditation. She is also a BLS Healthcare Provider instructor for the American
Heart Association.

Shahveer Dhatigara
Board Member
Shahveer serves as SOFLES Healthcare Information Technology advisor bringing over
15 years of experience helping physicians with new and better ways to conduct
business to achieve and sustain market leadership. He has committed his career to
transforming healthcare information technology by designing affordable, top-notch
Medical Practice Management, Electronic Health Records, Digital Diagnostic Imaging
and Medical Transcription solutions. His experience and technical background shall
enable him to set strategic direction for the society and its members. Shahveer holds
degrees in Computer Science and Business Administration from the University of
Arkansas .

Dr. Bayron is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. His training
started in Puerto Rico and brought him to Miami for his Pediatric Cardiology
fellowship. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, The American
College of Cardiology and the American Medical Association. He has been the
Medical Director of the Cardiology division of Pediatrix Medical Group of Florida in
Palm Beach County. In addition, he is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the
University of Miami.
Kasey is a student at the Institute of Allied Medical Professions in Delray
Beach , FL. Upon her graduation in October she will receive an Associate’s
Degree in Applied Sciences in Diagnostic Medical sonography. She has
studied all modalities of ultrasound but has a special interest in the area of
Echocardiography. She is pursuing a job in Columbia , South Carolina
where she will perform all modalities of ultrasound. The Board of Directors
would like to thank her for her participation in this newsletter and for
organizing the email list of members.
