3) APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR OPENING FIXED DEPOSITACCOUNT IN MALAYSIAMalaysia My Second Home (MM2H) participants are required to open amandatory <strong>fixed</strong> <strong>deposit</strong> (FD) of RM300,000 <strong>for</strong> those below 50 years oldor RM150,000 <strong>for</strong> those aged 50 years and above <strong>in</strong> any bank<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>stitution <strong>in</strong> Malaysia. After a one –year period, the participant can applyto withdraw part of the FD.The <strong>account</strong> must be <strong>in</strong> Malaysian R<strong>in</strong>ggit (RM) either <strong>in</strong> conventional orIslamic <strong>fixed</strong> <strong>deposit</strong>.The follow<strong>in</strong>g documents are required <strong>for</strong> the <strong>open<strong>in</strong>g</strong> of the FD <strong>account</strong>:• Identity Card/Passport (<strong>for</strong> <strong>in</strong>dividual)• Application Form <strong>for</strong> Open<strong>in</strong>g of Fixed Deposit Account• Specimen Signatures• Conditional Approval letter from the Immigration Department ofMalaysia• Customer’s Declaration to confirm the follow<strong>in</strong>g:o To authorise the Bank to confirm the existence of the FDwhen required by the relevant Government Authorities bysign<strong>in</strong>g the Consent Form which can be downloaded fromthis website (http://mm2h.motour.gov.my)• Any other relevant registration documents that may be deemednecessaryMaximum period on FD is one (1) years renewable subject to theextension of the Social Pass Visit issued by the Immigration Departmentupon expiry.Interest earned on the FD can be withdrawn by the participant after theone-year period.Emergency withdrawal of the FD is allowed subject to prior approval fromthe M<strong>in</strong>istry of Tourism Malaysia without affect<strong>in</strong>g the participant’s status<strong>in</strong> Malaysia under the MM2H Programme.The FD can be withdrawn at anytime that the participant wish toterm<strong>in</strong>ate his/her stay <strong>in</strong> Malaysia under this programme. However, theparticipant should notify the M<strong>in</strong>istry of Tourism <strong>in</strong> order <strong>for</strong> the M<strong>in</strong>istryto issue a letter confirm<strong>in</strong>g the term<strong>in</strong>ation of the participant’s stay underthis programme.1

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR WITHDRAWAL OF FIXED DEPOSITA: FOR NEW PARTICIPANTS (JOINED AFTER 1 APRIL, 2006)After a one year period, the participant may apply to withdraw part of theFixed Deposit (FD) <strong>for</strong> approved expenses relat<strong>in</strong>g to purchase of house,children’s education <strong>in</strong> Malaysia and medical purposes, subject to thelimits set as follows:i) Aged below 50 years• May withdraw up to RM240,000ii)Aged 50 years and above• Applicable <strong>for</strong> those who comply with the FD requirementmay withdraw up to RM90,000The participant is required to obta<strong>in</strong> prior approval from the M<strong>in</strong>istry ofTourism by submitt<strong>in</strong>g a letter of <strong>application</strong> and support<strong>in</strong>g documentsto show proof of his/her <strong>in</strong>tention <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g details of the purchase ofhouse, education <strong>for</strong> children <strong>in</strong> Malaysia and medical purposes. TheM<strong>in</strong>istry of Tourism will issue a letter to the participant’s bank to confirmhis/her eligibility to withdraw the said amount.B: FOR EXISTING PARTICIPANTSExist<strong>in</strong>g participants who jo<strong>in</strong>ed the programme be<strong>for</strong>e 1 April, 2006 andwho are comply<strong>in</strong>g with the FD requirement, may also withdraw part oftheir FD <strong>for</strong> approved expenses relat<strong>in</strong>g to purchase of house ,children’seducation <strong>in</strong> Malaysia and medical purposes. After a one year period ofstay <strong>in</strong> Malaysia. Criteria is as follows :-i) Aged below 50 years / Aged 50 years and above• S<strong>in</strong>gle participant with FD amount of RM100,000• May withdraw up to RM40,000• Participant and Spouse with FD amount of RM150,000• May withdraw up to RM90,0003

Exist<strong>in</strong>gparticipants who have already purchased houses can also apply towithdraw their FD to settle their exist<strong>in</strong>g hous<strong>in</strong>g loans.The M<strong>in</strong>istry of Tourism will issue a letter to the participant’s bank toconfirm his/her eligibility to withdraw the said amount.4


It is mandatory <strong>for</strong> all exist<strong>in</strong>g participants who are comply<strong>in</strong>g with theFD requirement to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> the m<strong>in</strong>imum FD as follows :i ) RM 60,000 <strong>for</strong> participants who jo<strong>in</strong>t the programme be<strong>for</strong>e 1 April2009 ,ii ) RM 100,000 <strong>for</strong> participants who jo<strong>in</strong>t the programme from 1 April2009 (age 50 years and above ) andIii ) RM 150,000 <strong>for</strong> participants who jo<strong>in</strong>t the programme from 1 April2009 (age below 50 years )FD should be ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed from the second year onwards thoughout theirstay <strong>in</strong> Malaysia under this programme.5
