MESSAGE FROM THE PROGRAM CHAIRDear Colleague:The Renal Physicians Association’s 2011 Annual Meeting has been organizedaround three major themes to empower nephrology practitioners tosuccessfully confront the evolving challenges facing our specialty. The firstday of the conference centers on influencing the continuum of care in renaldisease, with topics ranging from timely referral and co-management ofchronic kidney disease to end of life care. The subsequent session focuseson the leadership role of the nephrologist in improving vascular access inhemodialysis patients, utilizing telehealth to improve quality kidney patientcare, and incorporating performance risk into practice. The last sessioncomprises topics under the rubric of incorporating health care reform intolocal nephrology practice. Issues to be covered during this session includepopulation management versus individual patient management, the effectof end-stage renal disease bundling on nephrology practice, how public reporting will affect patient care, andchanging coverage policies that affect anemia management.Interactive workshop options range from how to use quality metrics to improve patient care, strategies to handledisruptive patients, managing care for uninsured patients, and how to implement health information technologyin your practice. Special workshop tracks are also planned for renal fellows and practice managers.
