mainstream students became aware that the tribal girls were suffering with a serioussecurity problem, as during midnight men were coming to their dorms and sleeping nextto them—a complete violation of hostel protocol. Men were also observing the girlsbathing, and recording the scenes on their mobiles. The Astha girls were shocked bythese testimonies, and gave a complaint to the warden but no action was taken; it wasbelieved that the warden was also involved and was torturing and punishing the tribalchildren. This made the tribal children helpless to give any complaint to the warden forjustice regarding the men or the bathroom problem at their hostel.This entire issue was observed by Astha Nivas‘ mainstream students committee. Theythus made a complaint to the District collectors who took immediate action, and sent thewelfare department commissioner for proper and confidential enquiry for their justice.He went to the school, interacted with hostel girls, who agreed it was happening, andafter inquiries tried to change warden to replace her. They understood the issues and didthe groundwork, giving a very convincing and intense presentation of sexual assault tothe officials. Such a situation demonstrates that the children in Astha Nivas arebecoming true activists, carrying the movement of Prajwala forward to bring change tothe next generation.49
