Detailed records of baptisms missingfor 1850-1869, but an annual index of baptisms is held for this period. The ScottishRegistrar-General does not appear to have records of the births of the children of Thomas& Bridget Mullen. Subsequently found this not necessarily so, eg they have birth ofPatrick registeredNote 1: l = Information from Catholic Church, Linlithgow, 1997. This agrees with some ofAunt Margaret’s 1988 letter. As to their entries of “No record’ presumably Thomas wasborn before the family moved to Linlithgow, but it is a puzzle that they have no record ofthe birth of Ann & Francis, ie considering that Winifred’s birth was noted there in 1910. Winifred was born at Linlithgow in May 1910 and one of our mother’s papers place thefamily at Glasgow in July 1912, thus they would have moved between those dates

Mary Ann Mullen married Donald Mackenzie Hunter at Liechhart, NSW on 23.9.1887(this is shown on Mary Ann’s death certificate). They moved to Western Australia (WA)about 1895. She died at Perth WA on 11.10.1912. Donald Hunter was born atGreenock, Scotland circa 1864 and died at Perth WA 30.5.1947. They had sevenchildren. At the time of writing I am only aware of the whereabouts of one descendant,ie Donald Hunter of Albany WA, a grandson of Mary Ann and Donald MackenzieHunter. The 1895 marriage certificate of Patrick Mullen and Mary-Ann Curran, at Edinburgh, lists her mother’s maiden surname as ‘Conlon’ (sic). Mary-Ann Curran’s birth certificatelists her parents as ‘Bernard Curran, labourer, gasworks’ and ‘Mary Curran, M.S.Conlin’ (sic). The certificate also shows that Bernard and Mary were married on29 November 1869 at Edinburgh Margaret Mullen married Peter McFarlane on 30 June 1885 at Edinburgh. This isshown on the death certificate of one of their children, Catherine, who died at Perth,WA, 21.1.1918, aged 22 years. Catherine McFarlane was living with her maternal auntCatherine Donegan at the time of her death in WA in 1918 Catherine Mullen married Francis Donegan at Glasgow on 13.10.1902. They migratedto Western Australia soon after. Francis (Frank) Donegan was born at Fermanagh,Northern Ireland, circa 1877 and died at Perth WA, 24.3.1946. Catherine died at PerthWA, 26.3.1947. None of their children survived birth or early babyhood. Nothing is known to us in Australia about Bridget Mullen Mary Conlon Mullen arrived in Western Australia in March 1925, nominally for a 12month holiday...Upon her arrival, she lived here with her paternal aunt CatherineDonegan. She did not return to Scotland as, in May 1926, she married CorneliusMoynihan. He had migrated from Ireland to WA in 1908 & died at Perth, WA, 24 April1940, aged 51 years, there being six children of their marriage. Mary Moynihan died at,and was buried at, Killarney, Ireland while on a visit there in 1979. Throughout her lifein Western Australia she used the spelling ‘Conlan’ for her second given name. Herbirth certificate clearly shows ‘Conlon’. Cornelius and Mary Moynihan are my parents -JFM Aunt Margaret lists her brother Francis’ date of death as 20 April 1971. A letter fromWinifred to Mary (my mother) says 17 March, no year given, but the envelope is clearlypostmarked 1973. Letter says Francis died in Saudi Arabia, was buried at Leeds. Catherine Mullen died of scarlet fever on the day she was to make her first communion. My mother (Mary) often remarked on this and how devastated the whole family was.Aunt Margaret makes the same remarks in her letter. She (Margaret) also said simply“Anne died when she was an infant”. None of us here in Australia remember ourmother ever saying anything at all about there being an Anne in the family, much lessher death as an infant. Anyone have information on Anne Mullen, please?
