NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS IN Rockford TownshipThe 2012 Rockford Township Median Level of Assessment is 33.33%.Your property is to be assessed at the above listed median level of assessmentfor your township. Assessments of all taxable property, other than farm land andfarm buildings, are required by law to be equalized at 33.33% of fair marketvalue. You may check the accuracy of your assessment by dividing your assessmentby the median level of assessment. The resulting value should equal yourestimate of the fair market value of your property. If the resulting value isgreater than your estimate of the fair market value of your property, you may beover-assessed. If the resulting value is less than your estimate of the fairmarket value of your property, you may be under-assessed. You may appeal yourassessment to the Winnebago County Board of Review.The Rockford Township Assessor is Kenneth Crowley. The Rockford TownshipAssessor’s office is located at 401 W. State St., the phone number is815-965-0300, office hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday, and thewebsite address is rockfordtownshipassessor.net.If you believe the full fair market value of your property is incorrect, or ifyou believe the assessment is not uniform with the assessment of comparableproperties in the same neighborhood, you are advised to ask for a review of yourassessment. Contact your township assessor’s office first to ask for a review ofyour assessment. If you are not satisfied with the assessor’s review, you areadvised to file an appeal with the Winnebago County Board of Review. The board’srules can be viewed on the board’s website: bor.wincoil.us. A copy of the rulescan be obtained by calling the board of review at 815-319-4460. Taxpayers areadvised the deadline for filing an appeal with the board of review is Monday,September 10, 2012.Your assessment will have a direct relationship to your 2012 tax bill, which willbe payable in 2013. All exemptions for which you are eligible will be deductedfrom your equalized assessed value to arrive at your taxable value. Your taxablevalue will then be multiplied by the aggregate tax rate of all taxing districtyour property is located in to arrive at your total tax amount due.Your property may be eligible for various homestead exemptions. Homesteadexemptions are available for residences of disabled veterans, veterans returningfrom an armed conflict, disabled persons, senior citizens, owner occupants, andowner occupants of property which has had its assessment increased for theaddition of a new improvement to an existing structure.
