Infrastructure, Housing and Buildings SectorInfrastructure represented a major area forWA in 2006 in terms of funds disbursed, with$3.225 million disbursed for repair of roads,housing, water and sewerage systems, includingthe completion of a multi-year building repairproject begun in 2003 that totaled $4 million.WA worked with local partners such asregional emergency committees, neighborhooddevelopment committees, municipalities andvillage councils, non-governmental organizations,the Palestinian Economic Council forDevelopment and Construction (PECDAR) andthe Ministry of Public Works and Housing.In Jerusalem, <strong>Welfare</strong> <strong>Association</strong> directlyimplemented emergency housing repairs throughthe Old City of Jerusalem Revitalization Program(OCJRP) [See Box 2].Major donors for the sector were the Arab Fundfor Economic and Social Development, ArabMonetary Fund, BADEA, Islamic DevelopmentFund, and other earmarked and unrestricted privatedonations. Funds were also raised through a specialWA Rafah Relief Campaign and a past fundraisingevent in Sharjah.Activities in 2006Infrastructure projects are classified into 3 subsectors:Housing, Infrastructure Rehabilitation, and Rehabilitationof Public Buildings and Sites. The geographical spreadof the projects in 2006 was: Gaza (2), West Bank (9),Jerusalem (15) and the 1948 areas (6).In 2006, <strong>Welfare</strong> <strong>Association</strong> implemented 32 differentprojects in the Infrastructure, Housing and BuildingsSector with disbursements totaling $3.225 million.By region, the amount of funds disbursed was: WestBank ($1.36 million), Gaza ($.04 million), 1948 areas($.12 million), and Jerusalem ($1.71 million).
