Sponsored by Southside Bank This series is designed to quickly orient incoming executive to the community and its resources so they become more knowledgeable about this area and how business is done in Tyler/Smith County; proud and excited to have chosen to relocate to this area; and deeply invested in our growth now and in the future. The objectives include acquainting participants about the history; business environment; political and civic structures; cultural; recreational; and other resources. It also provides the participants the opportunity to interact with a cross-section of key local and regional leaders and decision makers as well as introducing participants to other executives and professional individuals and couples. ABOUT LEADERSHIP TYLER: Leadership Tyler was established in 1986 for the purpose of identifying, motivating, and developing future leadership in Tyler. During the development of Leadership Tyler, one of the founding members stated “we want this first class of Leadership Tyler to develop an esprit de corps that will transcend race, political, and occupational affiliation. We want these participants to develop a bond with one common goal: How can we improve the quality of life in Tyler?” Improving Tyler is exactly what Leadership Tyler Alumni have done since the first class graduated in 1987. The Leadership Tyler Core Program has graduated alumni who are well-informed, committed, and passionately engaged in creating a vital, positive community for current and future generations. Leadership Tyler's lasting legacy is its graduates - more than 550 core program members and now 14 Executive Orientation Series alumni serve as policy-level community trustees for dozens of different organizations, as elected and appointed officials, and as leaders in the private, public and non-profit sectors of Smith County. Leadership Tyler is a non-profit 501(c) 3 and is supported through tuition and program fees, alumni membership dues, individual contributions and corporate sponsorship. Contributions to Leadership Tyler greatly help us in achieving a vision of a community rich in leaders who are well informed, committed, and passionately engaged in creating a vital, positive community for current and future generations. Leadership Tyler provides the training for leaders who then in turn affect their places of work, neighborhoods, families, and more than 200 non-profit organizations in the Smith County area. The Nominating Committee, seven of which will be elected by three-year terms beginning October 1, 2008, selects fourteen names. The committee is outlined in the Chamber’s bylaws to include the Chairman of the Board, Chairman-elect of the Board, the Council Chairman, the Chairman of the nominating committee, who is appointed member of the Executive Committee, and three at large members. Directors who are retiring in September include: Larry Bolton, Mark McDaniel, Skip Ogle, Vicki Sorrell, John Soules, Jr., and Ed Wallace. Anyone wishing to submit names for nomination is urged to contact Henry Bell at the Chamber at 592-1018 or by mail. Calendar of Event Information Needed The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce maintains a calendar of events which is to inform the public of special events in the Tyler area which they can attend. Information is needed from various organizations and groups on these special events to keep the calendar current. The calendar is updated on a regular basis and events must meet the following criteria to be placed on this calendar: The event must be open to the public, there must be a contact and phone number for further information and there must be an event name, date and location. Groups wanting to place information on the calendar may call Sherry Watson at 592-1661 or email swatson@tylertexas.com. This calendar is also maintained on the Chamber’s web site at www.tylertexas.com. Golf Tournament Scheduled for September 22nd Start working on your backswing and get ready for Monday September 22nd. Chamber members will once again tee it up again for the Tenth Annual TACC Membership Golf Tournament. The unique tournament will allow for members to meet and network with other Chamber members and potential members. Sponsorships are available including a lunch, beverage and hole sponsors.
