Newly elected Chairman of the Contact Club,
Lynda York is Contactor of the Month for
February. A new employee of BancorpSouth
after a short retirement, Lynda was also named
Volunteer of the Quarter for her efforts as Chairman of the Business
Expo. She currently serves on the Board of the American Cancer
Society. Lynda and her husband, David, are members of Green Acres
Baptist Church.
With the beginning of spring and the annual Azalea & Spring Flower Trail,
SPORTyler in conjunction with the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf
Foundation, kicked off their 2nd annual Azalea Trail Junior Golf Classic.
The one day tournament took place on March 14 at Hollytree Country
Club. More than 75 golfers, ages 7-18, along with their families enjoyed the
beautiful weather, saw some great golf and experienced Tyler’s warm
hospitality. Parents from out of town commented on the beauty of both
the city of Tyler and Hollytree Country Club.
Trophies were awarded to the top 3 players in each age division and
medals were awarded to the fourth and fifth place players thanks to the
generosity of Tyler Trophy. Jared Johnson of Lindale won the boys 16-18
division with a top score of 73, one over par. Nichole Birdsong of Tyler
won the girls 15-18 division with a score of 102.
The tournament received excellent media coverage thanks to partnerships
with the Tyler Morning Telegraph, CBS 19, and the East Texas Radio Group.

Speaking of junior golf, the Texas Junior Golf Tour and SPORTyler will be
partnering to host the “Tyler Rose Junior Invitational” May 17-18 at
Eagle’s Bluff Country Club in Bullard. The tournament will attract top-tier
talent by offering more exemptions into American Junior Golf Association
tournaments. It is also a Golfweek-ranked event – which in junior golf is a

has been named Contactor of the Month for
March. She is an Account Executive for BSCENE
Magazine and is active in the community as
a member of the East Texas HR Association and Tyler Young
Professionals as well as serving as Publicity Chairman for e-Women
Network. Christy and her husband Paul along with their children are
members of Green Acres Baptist Church.
SPORTyler Hosts Second Annual Azalea Trail Junior Golf Classic

big deal! The invitational field of about 100 junior golfers, from Texas and
beyond, will range in age from 12-18. The tournament is free to the public.
The warm beautiful weather also signals the start of America’s favorite
pasttime – baseball! SPORTyler and Tyler Junior College are diligently
preparing for the NJCAA Division III Baseball Championship to be held
May 17–22 at Mike Carter Field. Eight teams from across the country will
come to Tyler along with their families and friends. Last year Tyler’s very
own Tyler Junior College Apaches won the championship! We are anticipating
another entertaining tournament and hope you will make plans to come out
and watch some very good baseball. If you would like to participate as a

The University of Texas at Tyler Women’s Softball Team, who are having
an incredible year, ranked number one in the nation for the majority of the
season, have been asked to host an NCAA Division III regional tournament
May 8-12th on the beautiful campus of UT/Tyler. This is quite an honor and
according to Peyton Low, Director, Sports Information/Facilities/Operations,
this will be the first time an NCAA tournament has been hosted in Tyler.
SPORTyler will lend their support in the area of hospitality. Eight teams
will be participating in this event.
