Lynda York<br />

February<br />

Newly elected Chairman of the Contact Club,<br />

Lynda York is Contactor of the Month for<br />

February. A new employee of BancorpSouth<br />

after a short retirement, Lynda was also named<br />

Volunteer of the Quarter for her efforts as Chairman of the Business<br />

Expo. She currently serves on the Board of the American Cancer<br />

Society. Lynda and her husband, David, are members of Green Acres<br />

Baptist Church.<br />

With the beginning of spring and the annual Azalea & Spring Flower Trail,<br />

SPOR<strong>Tyler</strong> in conjunction with the Northern <strong>Texas</strong> PGA Junior Golf<br />

Foundation, kicked off their 2nd annual Azalea Trail Junior Golf Classic.<br />

The one day tournament took place on March 14 at Hollytree Country<br />

Club. More than 75 golfers, ages 7-18, along with their families enjoyed the<br />

beautiful weather, saw some great golf and experienced <strong>Tyler</strong>’s warm<br />

hospitality. Parents from out of town commented on the beauty of both<br />

the city of <strong>Tyler</strong> and Hollytree Country Club.<br />

Trophies were awarded to the top 3 players in each age division and<br />

medals were awarded to the fourth and fifth place players thanks to the<br />

generosity of <strong>Tyler</strong> Trophy. Jared Johnson of Lindale won the boys 16-18<br />

division with a top score of 73, one over par. Nichole Birdsong of <strong>Tyler</strong><br />

won the girls 15-18 division with a score of 102.<br />

The tournament received excellent media coverage thanks to partnerships<br />

with the <strong>Tyler</strong> Morning Telegraph, CBS 19, and the East <strong>Texas</strong> Radio Group.<br />

Speaking of junior golf, the <strong>Texas</strong> Junior Golf Tour and SPOR<strong>Tyler</strong> will be<br />

partnering to host the “<strong>Tyler</strong> Rose Junior Invitational” May 17-18 at<br />

Eagle’s Bluff Country Club in Bullard. The tournament will attract top-tier<br />

talent by offering more exemptions into American Junior Golf Association<br />

tournaments. It is also a Golfweek-ranked event – which in junior golf is a<br />

Christy Strickland<br />

March<br />

A first year member of the Contact Club, Christy<br />

has been named Contactor of the Month for<br />

March. She is an Account Executive for BSCENE<br />

Magazine and is active in the community as<br />

a member of the East <strong>Texas</strong> HR Association and <strong>Tyler</strong> Young<br />

Professionals as well as serving as Publicity Chairman for e-Women<br />

Network. Christy and her husband Paul along with their children are<br />

members of Green Acres Baptist Church.<br />

SPOR<strong>Tyler</strong> Hosts Second Annual Azalea Trail Junior Golf Classic<br />

With a Busy Spring Planned<br />

big deal! The invitational field of about 100 junior golfers, from <strong>Texas</strong> and<br />

beyond, will range in age from 12-18. The tournament is free to the public.<br />

The warm beautiful weather also signals the start of America’s favorite<br />

pasttime – baseball! SPOR<strong>Tyler</strong> and <strong>Tyler</strong> Junior College are diligently<br />

preparing for the NJCAA Division III Baseball Championship to be held<br />

May 17–22 at Mike Carter Field. Eight teams from across the country will<br />

come to <strong>Tyler</strong> along with their families and friends. Last year <strong>Tyler</strong>’s very<br />

own <strong>Tyler</strong> Junior College Apaches won the championship! We are anticipating<br />

another entertaining tournament and hope you will make plans to come out<br />

and watch some very good baseball. If you would like to participate as a<br />

sponsor or want to volunteer some of your time to the event please contact<br />

The University of <strong>Texas</strong> at <strong>Tyler</strong> Women’s Softball Team, who are having<br />

an incredible year, ranked number one in the nation for the majority of the<br />

season, have been asked to host an NCAA Division III regional tournament<br />

May 8-12th on the beautiful campus of UT/<strong>Tyler</strong>. This is quite an honor and<br />

according to Peyton Low, Director, Sports Information/Facilities/Operations,<br />

this will be the first time an NCAA tournament has been hosted in <strong>Tyler</strong>.<br />

SPOR<strong>Tyler</strong> will lend their support in the area of hospitality. Eight teams<br />

will be participating in this event.<br />
