Ivers J.NortonElementarySchoolGoodbye and good luck! We, at IJN, wish to say “goodbye”to Mr. Samuelson. Randy was a fourth grade teacher atIJN for the past few years. He will be leaving us and movingover to Eastview this coming school year. The students andstaff will miss his presence on the third floor and his gentlecomments as he strolled down the halls. We won’t forget you.Good luck at Eastview, Mr. Samuelson!Welcome new custodians! At the end of thelast school year we were informed that we wouldbe losing both of our custodians, John Hendricksonand Mike Diffenderfer. We will all miss John andMike and wish them well in the future. They wereboth an integral part of our building and we willdefinitely feel a loss. Their interactions with thestudents and staff were an addition to our “family.”We now look forward to adding new members toour “family.” We welcome Joe McCarthy (picturedabove right), custodian/building and groundsmaintainer. Joe is new to IJN, but is not new to theOlean City School District. He first began workingfor Olean in January 1979. He has worked at bothNorth Hill and Olean High. When asked to give astatement about his new appointment, Joe said,“I’m looking forward to meeting all the new peopleat IJN.”We also welcome Marty Faragher (shown above, left), cleaner. Marty, too, is a veteran Oleanworker. He formerly worked at Olean High. Martystarted working for Olean in 1985. When askedhow he felt about his new appointment, with a bigsmile, he said, “I’m happy to be here!”Pesticide use notificationDuring the school year, it may be necessary for maintenance staff to use pesticides on school grounds to meet pestmanagement goals.
