The Citadel named toppublic college in theSouth by U.S.NewsThe Citadel ranks No. 1 among the toppublic universities in the South, accordingto the 2012 Best Colleges rankings fromU.S.News & World Report.In The NewsThe rankings were released inSeptember highlighting the best publicand private colleges, universities andprograms around the country. Amongthe top public (regional) universities inthe South, the only other South Carolinaschools ranked along with The Citadel are2012the College of Charleston (4th) and Winthrop University in Rock Hill (7th).“The Citadel offers an outstanding academic and leadership experience,” saidLt. The 626 colleges inthe category are ranked by region against their peers because in general they tend todraw students most heavily from surrounding states, according to the rankings.The Citadel School of Engineering retained its place at No. 21 among 50undergraduate engineering schools ranked by U.S.News this year.
