Officers ElectChair - Jamie Alyce Jurczak is a Partner with Taylor McCaffrey LLP, where shepractices in the areas of labour <strong>and</strong> employment law, occupational health <strong>and</strong> safety law,<strong>and</strong> general litigation. She graduated from the University of Ottawa with her LL.B. in 2003,<strong>and</strong> was called to the <strong>Manitoba</strong> Bar in 2004. Her preferred area of practice is occupationalhealth <strong>and</strong> safety. Jamie is the vice-chair of the Canadian Association Counsel to EmployersOHS subcommittee, <strong>and</strong> is the author of the forthcoming OHS chapter of the CanadianEncyclopedic Digest (Western). In addition to her active involvement in the Canadian <strong>and</strong><strong>Manitoba</strong> Bar Associations, she owns her own dance studio, Maples Academy of Dance,where she is an actively continues to teach ballet, tap, jazz <strong>and</strong> musical theatre.Immediate Past Chair - Carol A. ParadineCarol is a Deloitte Canada <strong>Board</strong> member <strong>and</strong> the leader of Deloitte’s Winnipeg office. AChartered Accountant <strong>and</strong> CPA, she provides financial advisory, assurance, <strong>and</strong> relatedservices to clients in a variety of sectors. Carol has been a partner for 14 years <strong>and</strong>has worked with Deloitte for 23 years. She has been highly active in the communityduring her career, including <strong>Board</strong> positions with the Alzheimer’s Society of <strong>Manitoba</strong>,National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA, Carleton University advisory <strong>Board</strong> to the Facultyof Business, Harmony House (a women’s shelter), Carleton University as a lecturer <strong>and</strong>coach, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ task forces, the United Way, theOttawa Carleton Research Institute <strong>and</strong> as a girl’s soccer coach. Carol graduated from Carleton University with aBachelor of Commerce -Highest Honours in 1987.Vice Chair - Kenneth ThomasKen was born <strong>and</strong> raised in Winnipeg, <strong>Manitoba</strong>. He graduated from Red River Collegewith a Business Administration Diploma <strong>and</strong> continues his education in leadership <strong>and</strong>strategic planning. Ken is a senior financial manager with extensive experience in thetransportation <strong>and</strong> construction sectors <strong>and</strong> is currently Corporate Governance Officer ofBridge Road Developments Ltd. He is a respected community leader who contributes tothe community various capacities, which include an officer <strong>and</strong> director of the <strong>Manitoba</strong>Chambers of Commerce <strong>and</strong> Skills Connect/Third Quarter, past-president of the Winkler &District Chamber of Commerce, <strong>and</strong> past church treasurer of The Meeting Place in Winnipeg.Vice Chair - Dale LacombeA graduate of the University of <strong>Manitoba</strong>’s Faculty of Commerce, Mr. Lacombe has24 years experience in the technology <strong>and</strong> consulting sectors across Canada <strong>and</strong> theUnited States. He has led international sales <strong>and</strong> professional services teams servingclients in the discrete manufacturing, financial services <strong>and</strong> public sector marketsthroughout North America. He is currently the Executive Vice-President of OEM Salesfor DMT Development Systems Group Inc. He previously held senior management <strong>and</strong>executive roles at PwC LLP <strong>and</strong> Emerging Information Systems Inc. (EISI). Throughouthis career, he <strong>and</strong> his family have remained committed to Winnipeg <strong>and</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong> <strong>and</strong>have been active members of the local community.He <strong>and</strong> his wife have three children who all keep very busy with healthy living, sports <strong>and</strong> the performing artsbeing very important parts of their lives. In addition to his role as Chair of the <strong>Manitoba</strong> Chambers of Commerce’sPresident’s Advisory Committee on Healthcare, Mr. Lacombe also serves on the <strong>Board</strong> of Directors for <strong>Manitoba</strong>Start (Employment Solutions for Immigrants-ESI Inc.).27


Vice Chair - Michael SelciMichael is the Vice-President Financing & Consulting for BDC responsible for the <strong>Manitoba</strong><strong>and</strong> Saskatchewan markets (inclusive of Kenora, Ont.). In his 29 years expertise in financialservices helping business owners start, exp<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> grow their businesses into newmarkets, he has worked throughout the <strong>Manitoba</strong> <strong>and</strong> Saskatchewan marketplace. Michaelhas a degree in Business Administration, several industry designation designations CSC,CFP, RMA <strong>and</strong> most recently completed an Executive Leadership Development programat Queen’s. He has been involved in the community from Hospital to community boards<strong>and</strong> the United Way. He is currently Vice-Chair of the <strong>Manitoba</strong> Chamber of Commerce<strong>and</strong> Vice-Chair of Skills Connect/ThirdQuarter. Michael has a passion for business <strong>and</strong> the community <strong>and</strong> can becalled up by the community anytime to assist.Treasurer - Regan WindsorRegan has been with <strong>Manitoba</strong> Hydro in several capacities since 2006. She has servedseveral departments within Hydro <strong>and</strong> currently is Manager, Agreements ManagementDepartment, overseeing the financial analysis, accounting <strong>and</strong> reporting servicesassociated with activities that alleviate Aboriginal concerns arising from the effects of<strong>Manitoba</strong> Hydro’s operations. Regan has an MBA from Laurentian University as wellas several professional designations including that of CGA. She is a past president ofCGA <strong>Manitoba</strong> <strong>and</strong> continues to play an active role with CGA serving on numerouscommittees both within <strong>Manitoba</strong> <strong>and</strong> Nationally. Regan also serves as treasurer ofSkills Connect /ThirdQuarter.Corporate Secretary - Merv GunterMerv is the co-owner of Frontiers North Adventures. Merv began his career with SearsCanada <strong>and</strong> London Life before joining the Royal Bank of Canada where he enjoyed asuccessful 27-year banking career. Retiring from the Royal Bank in 1999, Merv <strong>and</strong> hiswife Lynda committed themselves to growing Frontiers North into a major ecotourismoperation. Merv is a founding member of Continuity Care, an Advisory <strong>Board</strong> Memberfor Polar Bears International, a former President of the Churchill Chamber of Commerce.He has been actively involved on the <strong>Manitoba</strong> Chamber of Commerce <strong>Board</strong> ofDirectors since 2010, joined the Executive in 2011 <strong>and</strong> is currently the Chairperson forthe President’s Expert Committee on Northern Economic Development. Merv is also a member of the <strong>Board</strong> ofDirectors for Travel <strong>Manitoba</strong> <strong>and</strong> has served on its Executive Committee since 2011. Merv was the recipient ofthe Red River College Distinguished Alumni Award in 2009.Legal Counsel - Todd AndresTodd is an associate at Pitblado Law where he practices in the areas of labour <strong>and</strong>employment law. Todd received his law degree from the University of <strong>Manitoba</strong>in 2006 <strong>and</strong> was called to the Bar in June 2007. Todd practices in the areas of labouremployment law <strong>and</strong> commercial <strong>and</strong> civil litigation. He acts on behalf of employersat various administrative tribunals <strong>and</strong> has appeared at all levels of court. His practiceareas include employment <strong>and</strong> labour law, human rights law <strong>and</strong> litigation as well asadministrative law <strong>and</strong> judicial review.28


New <strong>Board</strong> <strong>Members</strong> Elect <strong>2013</strong>The Nomination Committee is very pleased to see that many of the Directors whose terms were up forre-election have consented to remain on the <strong>Board</strong> for another term. The nomination committee is pleasedwith the following board c<strong>and</strong>idates that we are proposing to the membership for <strong>2013</strong>-<strong>2014</strong>.We welcome the following new members to the board:Brian Scharfstein, Certified Pedorthist (Canada)Representing the Winnipeg Chamber of CommerceBrian is a Canadian Pedorthist specializing in care of the diabetic foot. He is theprincipal owner of Canadian Footwear <strong>and</strong> the FootHealth Centre in Winnipeg <strong>and</strong>Calgary. He has served as a board member <strong>and</strong> a volunteer of the Canadian DiabetesAssociation in <strong>Manitoba</strong> <strong>and</strong> is Chair of Winnipeg Chamber. Brian’s passion forfootwear <strong>and</strong> footcare dates to his childhood as he grew up in the family footwearbusiness. Brian subsequently pursued his education at Northwestern University inChicago in the prosthetics <strong>and</strong> orthotics department to further his training as anorthopedic shoe technician at Ball State University (Muncie, Indiana) <strong>and</strong> undertookfurther training with Dennis Janisse at the Milwaukee General Hospital. Brian has been able to take his skill <strong>and</strong>create the FootHealth Centre, a centre of excellence for the management of lower extremity problems in personswith all types of orthopedic, rheumatologic, <strong>and</strong> diabetic complications. Brian is an active member of the HealthSciences Centre Diabetic Foot <strong>and</strong> Complicated Wound Clinic where he is an integral part of the healthcare team.Through this affiliation with the Health Sciences Centre, Brian is actively involved in the management of patientswith diabetic foot complications, <strong>and</strong> in the teaching of trainees in medicine, occupational <strong>and</strong> physiotherapy, aswell as, podiatry <strong>and</strong> Pedorthics. Brian is also actively involved in the teaching of nurses on these issues.Brian’s belief that everyone should have shoes led to the expansion of the SOS Footwear project in 2007 to includethe “Fit Feet on the Street” program. Most of the footwear given away is done so on an individual basis workingclosely with local charitable organizations like Siloam Mission <strong>and</strong> the Salvation Army. Brian has also served onthe President’s Expert Committee on Healthcare with Dale Lacombe.Nate Andrews, Representing The Br<strong>and</strong>on Chamber of CommerceNate graduated from Elton Collegiate <strong>and</strong> then from Mayville State University witha degree in Exercise Science. He returned to Br<strong>and</strong>on in 2000 after a stint playingbaseball in Australia <strong>and</strong> became an independent business owner in the city.<strong>and</strong> daughter,Taylor.After years in the construction <strong>and</strong> fitness industries he became a partner in thefamily business <strong>and</strong> is currently Sales Manager with Guild Insurance Brokers Inc.He has attained the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation <strong>and</strong>the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation. Nate <strong>and</strong> his wife Kristin, also apartner at Guild Insurance Brokers, live in Br<strong>and</strong>on with their two children, son, ParkerNate is strongly involved in the sporting <strong>and</strong> business community. He is a member of the UCT, manager/playerfor the Br<strong>and</strong>on Marlins Baseball Organization <strong>and</strong> Facility Manager of Andrews Field. Nate was also ProjectManager for the $300,000 of capital improvements that were generated from the Andrews Field FundraisingCampaign in honor of his late father. He sees the importance of community involvement <strong>and</strong> growth in thecommunity <strong>and</strong> looks forward to his opportunity with the Br<strong>and</strong>on Chamber of Commerce.”29


Paul McNeil, MMM GroupPaul McNeil is the Regional Vice President of MMM Group Limited. MMM is a nationalCanadian consulting engineering <strong>and</strong> planning firm of 2,000 people located in officescoast to coast. The firm specializes in transportation planning <strong>and</strong> engineering,infrastructure, urban planning <strong>and</strong> building technology. MMM is one of the leadingconsulting engineering firms in Canada with P3 projects focused on the deliveryof infrastructure. Paul has been with the firm for 22 years <strong>and</strong> is responsible for the<strong>Manitoba</strong> operations of MMM <strong>and</strong> its staff of 70 people in their Winnipeg office locatedin the Exchange District.Paul is a city planner by profession <strong>and</strong> for the past 37 years has specialized in urban development. He hasa particular interest in complex projects involving the integration of l<strong>and</strong> use planning <strong>and</strong> transportationplanning. He often leads the projects through the regulatory <strong>and</strong> municipal approval processes for rezoning<strong>and</strong> subdivision. This involves the preparation of various background studies <strong>and</strong> reports on transportationimpacts, infrastructure upgrades, environmental assessment, <strong>and</strong> supply <strong>and</strong> dem<strong>and</strong> studies. Recent higherprofileprojects include functioning as project manager for the development of the Seasons of Tuxedo shoppingcentre (IKEA), Waverley West, CentrePort Canada’s master plan <strong>and</strong> the Red River Infrastructure Committee (RRIC)review of regional wastewater options in the municipalities along the corridor north of Winnipeg.Paul grew up in Regina, moved to Winnipeg to attend university, <strong>and</strong> has lived in Winnipeg for the past fortyyears. He is a graduate of the University of <strong>Manitoba</strong>, holding a Master’s Degree in City Planning. His currentpassion is learning how to sail.31
