Anu Leenu Uustalu - The ‘Art’ of Giving
Anu Leenu Uustalu was born September 22nd, 1914 in Tallinn, Estonia.
When she was just 4 years old, the Independence Manifesto of 1918 was proclaimed
in Tallinn, with the unforeseen side effects of immediate German occupation
and a war with Russia. In 1920, Tallinn-life.com reports a peace treaty
with Russia was signed, “whereby Russia acknowledged their momentary boredom
with the whole pursuit and patted the back of the new Estonian Republic.”
Young Anu was a talented artist and studied at the Pallas Art School. She once
said, “I paint because I have to paint, because God created me with the
desire to do just that!”
With the outbreak of World War II, a coup overseen by the Red Army led to
Estonia being annexed by the USSR before the invasion by Nazi Germany in
1941. The most terrible night of her life came during one of these invasions.
She told us soldiers came into town in the middle of the night and took all the
men and boys. It was the last time she ever saw her father or brothers and she
was never able to learn their fates. “The women and girls were allowed to
run off into the fields and hide,” she recalled.
She eventually made her way to Germany where she lived in a Displaced
Workers Camp near Nuremberg. After the retreat of the Nazis in 1944, the
Soviets moved in and occupied Estonia for the next 47 years. Estonia was
smothered beneath the Iron Curtain until the unprecedented Estonian Singing
Revolution united the country, the Soviet Union eventually fell, an independent
democratic Estonian state was re-established in 1991. Estonia now is part of
the European Union.
Anu left Germany in 1949 and came the U.S. to continue her artwork.
Perhaps because of her difficult time in the 1940’s, Anu once said, “I create
imaginary or visionary human beings... I tend to forward some psychological, philosophical or
social statements which can be pleasant or unpleasant.” Her art is featured in several museums and the Estonia Art
Museum calls her works (like the one shown on this page), “Masterpieces.”
Anu enjoyed living at San Camillo. She would chuckle and smile in reply to those who asked how she was. “Ah,”
she would say, “More or less!” Another “art” she mastered was the art of giving. During her lifetime, she
made plans to give back to St. Camillus when she passed away. Anu named the “Order of St. Camillus
Foundation, Inc” (our legal name) in her Will as a beneficiary of 15% of her estate. She passed away in 2011and
is missed by her friends at San Camillo. The arts she learned will be her legacy.
You can make a big difference just as Anu did... even if you can’t paint! A simple bequest in your Will or trust will
make a big difference to the seniors we serve. You also can list us as a beneficiary of your IRA, bank accounts,
mutual funds, annuities or life insurance. Simply call your agents and tell them you'd like to make the change to
include the "Order of St. Camillus Foundation, Inc." as a beneficiary. Will you please prayerfully consider helping

Heritage Society gifts vary greatly in size and type. We have 144 gifts represented in the Society.
65 are from donors still living. The rest of the donors listed are honored in perpetuity. Some
people even make more than one planned gift to St. Camillus. Of the 144 gifts;
� 57 are simple gifts outlined in updated wills
� 24 are from San Camillo residents donating their entrance fee
� 13 are from trusts
� 9 are gifts are from charitable remainder trusts
� 9 are from Life Insurance policies, and
the remaining include annuities, bonds, IRA gifts, real estate, art and other property,
charitable lead trusts, stocks, CD’s and automobiles.
During the 2010-2011 fiscal year, $15,484 was received from 8 Heritage Society gifts. Most of
the gifts were for the area of greatest need.

Endowment Funds
within the Order of St. Camillus Foundation, Inc.
The Order of St. Camillus Foundation, Inc. raises money for both the needs of the brothers and priests
in the Order of St. Camillus (things like healthcare, retirement expenses, vocations, formation and
Camillian mission work) and to help those served at our greater Milwaukee area facility. We accept two
kinds of gifts: outright gifts and endowment gifts. With an outright gift, a donation is made,
acknowledged and then spent on the purpose stated by the donor. With an endowment gift, a donation
is made, acknowledged and invested. Only the earnings each year are used for the purposes established by
the donors. This creates a valuable new income source to fund needed services, programs and facility
upgrades. To date, we have seven endowment funds.

Opportunities
For those making new, outright,

St. Camillus. While we rely on gifts of cash to keep us going, here are some other ways you can help:
� IRA BENEFICIARY…Contact the company handling your IRA and add the "Order of St. Camillus
Foundation, Inc." as a partial or sole beneficiary of the IRA. - EASY!
� LIFE INSURANCE BENEFICIARY…Contact your insurance company and name the "Order of St.
Camillus Foundation, Inc." as the sole or partial beneficiary. - SIMPLE!
� BANK ACCOUNTS…Sign a simple "Payable on Death" (POD) form at your bank. Upon your passing,
the balance goes to the "Order of St. Camillus Foundation, Inc." - QUICK!
� BROKERAGE ACCOUNTS…See your broker to fill out a Payable on Death (POD) form to give your
investment accounts to St. Camillus at your passing. - EASY!
� STOCK VALUE DOWN?...When stock values drop (depreciate), you can sell them, take the loss
deduction, and then use the cash to make a charitable donation! If stock values are up (appreciated), then
donate the stock itself without selling it first. Call your broker.
� UPDATE YOUR WILL OR TRUST…This is a perfect time to add a bequest to the "Order
of St. Camillus Foundation, Inc."
� ANNUITIES…Tired of CD/Money market rates around 1%? If you have an appreciated asset that is
providing a low return, you may want to consider a Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT). For
example, an 85-year-old could earn a fixed rate of return around 7%! Assets go into the trust, which then
diversifies and pays you income for the rest of your life. At your passing, the "remainder" goes to the
"Order of St. Camillus Foundation, Inc." as a gift. You won't want to use an asset that is a key source of
income to create such a trust because it is impossible to predict inflation rates in the future. While 7% is a
great rate now, inflation could change that. We can provide you a proposal that will show your specific
fixed rate of return.
