Dear Friends <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Aemilian</strong>-Lakeside:<br />

As we celebrated <strong>our</strong> <strong>160</strong>th anniversary, 2010<br />

certa<strong>in</strong>ly was a banner year for <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Aemilian</strong>-<br />

Lakeside. We have come a long way s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>our</strong><br />

forerunner orphanages opened <strong>in</strong> 1850, and we<br />

were proud to share the story <strong>of</strong> <strong>our</strong> history and<br />

accomplishments throughout the year.<br />

F<strong>our</strong> major events fostered the cultivation <strong>of</strong> new<br />

stakeholders and provided fun-filled opportunities<br />

to solidify <strong>our</strong> relationships with exist<strong>in</strong>g friends and<br />

supporters. The overall theme was Grow Hope,<br />

honor<strong>in</strong>g the traditions <strong>of</strong> <strong>our</strong> past and highlight<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>our</strong> advancements <strong>in</strong>to the future.<br />

The kick<strong>of</strong>f event was a Community Advocacy<br />

Breakfast, featur<strong>in</strong>g motivational speaker Bob<br />

Danzig, a former foster child who bounced from<br />

home to home as a youngster and grew up to<br />

head the Hearst Corporation. With Portia Young,<br />

WISN-TV newscaster as <strong>our</strong> master <strong>of</strong> ceremonies,<br />

this April event brought together an array <strong>of</strong><br />

attendees to honor foster families for the <strong>service</strong><br />

they provide to children and the <strong>community</strong>.<br />

The second event was an Employee Appreciation<br />

even<strong>in</strong>g, held <strong>in</strong> July at the beautiful Sharon Lynne<br />

Wilson Center for the Arts. Former and current<br />

staff and board members gathered to solidify<br />

relationships and celebrate the <strong>service</strong>s and<br />

achievements <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Aemilian</strong>-Lakeside.<br />

Our 22nd Annual Golf Out<strong>in</strong>g, held <strong>in</strong> August at the<br />

Wiscons<strong>in</strong> Country Club, was a big success. A total<br />

<strong>of</strong> 135 <strong>in</strong>dividuals gathered on a beautiful sunny day<br />

to enjoy a round <strong>of</strong> golf and support the children<br />

and families <strong>in</strong> <strong>our</strong> care. We raised about $48,000<br />

to support young people <strong>in</strong> Independent Liv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

were homeless or are at risk <strong>of</strong> be<strong>in</strong>g homeless —<br />

who need a help<strong>in</strong>g hand to advance successfully<br />

<strong>in</strong>to adulthood.<br />

Our culm<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g event was <strong>our</strong> Grow Hope<br />

Celebration, a lovely semi-formal even<strong>in</strong>g held<br />

under the brise soleil <strong>in</strong> W<strong>in</strong>dhover Hall at the<br />

stunn<strong>in</strong>g Milwaukee Art Museum. D<strong>in</strong>ner, danc<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and a performance by children <strong>in</strong> <strong>our</strong> care, under<br />

the direction <strong>of</strong> Express Y<strong>our</strong>self Milwaukee, were<br />

highlights <strong>of</strong> this even<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Beyond events, we are proud to share compell<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividual stories: how people we serve were able<br />

to improve their lives and what impact this has on<br />

creat<strong>in</strong>g a healthier <strong>community</strong> <strong>in</strong> which we all live.<br />

You will f<strong>in</strong>d f<strong>our</strong> such stories <strong>in</strong> this annual report;<br />

we hope you will be moved by the challenges these<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividuals have been able to overcome and share<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>our</strong> pride <strong>in</strong> their successes.<br />

We s<strong>in</strong>cerely thank you for y<strong>our</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ued support<br />

<strong>of</strong> grow<strong>in</strong>g hope <strong>in</strong> the children, families and adults<br />

we are honored to serve. Together, we hope to<br />

move forward <strong>in</strong> even more creative and <strong>in</strong>novative<br />
