Celebrating 160 years of service in our community - St. Aemilian ...

Dear Friends of St. Aemilian-Lakeside:
As we celebrated our 160th anniversary, 2010
certainly was a banner year for St. Aemilian-
Lakeside. We have come a long way since our
forerunner orphanages opened in 1850, and we
were proud to share the story of our history and
accomplishments throughout the year.
Four major events fostered the cultivation of new
stakeholders and provided fun-filled opportunities
to solidify our relationships with existing friends and
supporters. The overall theme was Grow Hope,
honoring the traditions of our past and highlighting
our advancements into the future.
The kickoff event was a Community Advocacy
Breakfast, featuring motivational speaker Bob
Danzig, a former foster child who bounced from
home to home as a youngster and grew up to
head the Hearst Corporation. With Portia Young,
WISN-TV newscaster as our master of ceremonies,
this April event brought together an array of
attendees to honor foster families for the service
they provide to children and the community.
The second event was an Employee Appreciation
evening, held in July at the beautiful Sharon Lynne
Wilson Center for the Arts. Former and current
staff and board members gathered to solidify
relationships and celebrate the services and
achievements of St. Aemilian-Lakeside.
Our 22nd Annual Golf Outing, held in August at the
Wisconsin Country Club, was a big success. A total
of 135 individuals gathered on a beautiful sunny day
to enjoy a round of golf and support the children
and families in our care. We raised about $48,000
to support young people in Independent Living
Services, former foster kids – many who formerly

were homeless or are at risk of being homeless —
who need a helping hand to advance successfully
into adulthood.
Our culminating event was our Grow Hope
Celebration, a lovely semi-formal evening held
under the brise soleil in Windhover Hall at the
stunning Milwaukee Art Museum. Dinner, dancing
and a performance by children in our care, under
the direction of Express Yourself Milwaukee, were
highlights of this evening.
Beyond events, we are proud to share compelling
individual stories: how people we serve were able
to improve their lives and what impact this has on
creating a healthier community in which we all live.
You will find four such stories in this annual report;
we hope you will be moved by the challenges these
individuals have been able to overcome and share
in our pride in their successes.
We sincerely thank you for your continued support
of growing hope in the children, families and adults
we are honored to serve. Together, we hope to
move forward in even more creative and innovative
ways in the future.
