kunststoffmuseum – more than 100 years of polymer
history in troisdorf
The kunststoffmuseum in Troisdorf displays
the history of 100 years of plastic, with a focus
on PVC. Evidence is presented in a compact
and efficient way showing how lasting problem
solutions have been developed and economical
and environmentally-friendly successes have
been reached with PVC over the decades. 1200
exhibits and an extensive library show the exciting
development of many plastic-related ideas –
from the idea to products on the market today:
the world’s first PVC window profile, the world’s
“longerlife reed” for thatched houses
Thin-walled conical tubes are extruded and used
as long life reed material for thatched houses.
A renewable raw material (thatch or reed) has
been incorporated as filler into the polymer melt,
giving a product visually similar to the WPC (wood
plastic composite). The product is characterized
by a superior fire resistance, does not shrink and
the danger of rotting has been eliminated, thus
extending the lifetime of the roof.
