MESSAGE FROM THEVillage President By Carl KruegerPhoto by John O’HaraWhat a great time to be part of the exciting and thriving Villageof Brown Deer. During the past months there has been muchpositive news throughout our community and I am pleased toshare it with you.The good news started with the Deer Run back at the end ofApril – and we stayed on that positive path with the dedicationof the new Consolidated Dispatch Center in Bayside, thecompletion of our front desk remodeling project in the PoliceDepartment, right on through to the Community Vibes in thePark summer concerts and, of course, our popular Fourth ofJuly celebration. The hot, hot summer has given us a new appreciation forour swimming pond, a great community asset. We salute thePark and Recreation Department for managing it so efficientlyand ensuring that it is a safe environment for swimmers of allages. We also thank them for planning and arranging thewonderful programs available to all Brown Deer citizens.I am very proud of the Board of Trustees, the local electedofficials who live in the Village. Their achievements includeworking in collaboration with the School Board to institute safetyimprovements along N. 60th St. This governing body works hardto consider all the issues that impact the community and tomake decisions that serve the best interests of all the citizens ofBrown Deer. If you run into a Village Trustee, take a minute tothank them for their service. As we move forward, the Board of Trustees is expandingdirections with the formation of a new committee, theCommunity Events committee. We welcome volunteers aswe plan additional events and build on already successfulprograms like the Fourth of July festivities and the wellreceived“Vibes in the Park” free concerts. To volunteer or formore information, please contact the Park and RecreationDepartment at (414) 371-3070.Brown Deer’s involvement in the cooperative effort toconsolidate the dispatching centers in the seven North Shorecommunities brought recognition to the Village. The PublicPolicy Forum called this achievement an outstandingintergovernmental collaboration. I was honored to acceptthis acknowledgement on behalf of the Village.I have often been asked for my opinion of what makesour country great. I never hesitate to say that it is localgovernment! Local government, for the most part, deliversthe services and infrastructure necessary to maintain thecommunity: water to your house, garbage collection, snowplowing, Police, Fire, Public Health and other vital services. These are the basic services that make a community work.In my mind there is no doubt local government is the backbonethat keeps this country great. I look forward to reporting to youon the future progress of Brown Deer.North Shore Health Department Clinic Dates and TimesPlease call (414) 371-2980 for more information, to discuss fees or to make an appointment.IMMUNIZATION CLINICSBrown Deer Office • First floor of Village Hall2nd Tuesday of the month 10-11 a.m. (by appointment)3rd Wednesday of the month 3:30-4:30 p.m. (by appointment)Shorewood Office • 2010 E.
