Sport Central is a brand new £30million complex
which opened in September 2010 and is part of
Northumbria University, the largest university in
North-East England. Sport Central is far more than
just a sports complex; it is a world class venue
designed to hold international training camps,
competitive fixtures, events and conferences.
Sport Central is located in the heart of Newcastle
upon Tyne, one of the most dynamic and vibrant
cities in the UK. With excellent national and
international transport links, Newcastle is a place
where the historic and contemporary converge.
The city offers incredible opportunities for culture,
shopping, restaurants and nightlife together with
extensive leisure and sporting pursuits.
Famous for sport, whilst in Newcastle visitors can
see Newcastle United play at St James Park, the
Falcons rugby team at Kingston Park and witness the
Team Northumbria Netball Superleague team and the
Newcastle Eagles British basketball champions play
at Sport Central!
With a wide range of hotel and other accommodation,

Sport Central
Sport Central is a landmark new £30million facility which
offers a wide range of international standard facilities and
services all in one complex right at the heart of Newcastle
upon Tyne. It has already hosted international standard
events and is the new home of the British Basketball
Champions, the Newcastle Eagles.
The centrepiece of Sport Central is a 3000 seat indoor
arena with 360 degree seating that offers an unrivalled
spectator experience. The Sport Central arena, whilst it
can accommodate all sports, has been designed to meet
the highest international standards in basketball, volleyball,
netball and badminton. The design process was at all times
athlete centred to ensure that Sport Central delivered a new
standard of training and playing experience.
Accordingly, Sport Central offers internationally recognised
sport science facilities that are available on site. These
facilities include an integrated Performance Analysis Suite,
Physiology Laboratory, Gait Laboratory and Biomechanics
Laboratory. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation facilities and
services are available.
Sport Central also offers various meeting rooms including
three revolutionary ‘PODS’. These PODS are perfect for
team meetings as they incorporate the latest AV equipment
and enable match and player analysis. Meetings can be
recorded and shared.
In addition to the main arena, Sport Central offers a wide
range of different sports facilities that can be made
available on a dedicated and private basis. These facilities
include a Fitness Centre, Swimming Pool, Climbing Wall,
Sprint Track, Strength & Conditioning Suite, Squash Courts,
Golf Simulators and Indoor Driving Bays.
As a new building, Sport Central has been designed to offer
excellent access to athletes and spectators with disabilities
and to afford them the widest range of sporting
opportunities. Sport Central welcomes Paralympic teams.

Coach Lane
Coach Lane Sports Centre is a modern multi million pound
complex located a few miles from the city centre. Coach
Lane is predominately a Football Centre with facilities that
would compare favourably with those of any Football
League team.
The Sport Centre itself offers an Indoor Sports Hall, Fitness
Centre, Aerobics Studio and a number of fully AV enabled
high quality rooms perfect for team meetings and match
analysis. It also has excellent changing facilities for both
indoor and outdoor activities.

Support Services
Events Team
In order to make any competitive event, training camp
or conference a success, there is a dedicated and
experienced Events Team who will identify every precise
need and ensure these are all delivered to the highest
standards.
Hotels and Accommodation
Newcastle offers an extensive and diverse range of
accommodation options. These include some of the world’s
major hotel chains in stunning locations through to the
traditional English Bed and Breakfast (B&B) where there
is always a warm welcome to be found.
In addition, Northumbria University can provide
accommodation on campus within walking distance of
Sport Central and Coach Lane which is often very well
suited to visiting teams. It is of an excellent standard and
can be secured to ensure a private residence is maintained
for the duration of any stay.
Catering
A wide range of catering options are available for
events and visiting teams. The vast majority of dietary
requirements can be catered for and can be provided
in either restaurants on site or within university
accommodation should this be the preferred option.
Newcastle also offers a significant number of restaurants
and eateries that are sure to leave any food lover satisfied.
From stunning restaurants on the Newcastle Quayside
serving fine cuisine through to the traditional and
international, Newcastle has it all.
Media
Sport Central also has a dedicated Media Team which
can handle all media enquiries and press conferences if
required. There are excellent relationships with all of the
local and national media, including TV, radio and press.
Security
Northumbria takes the safety and security of all visiting
teams and delegates very seriously and has an experienced
on campus security team. The university also recognise
that many teams require enhanced security to ensure
privacy for training and competition and this can be provided.
Sport Services
As one of the UK’s leading sports universities, Northumbria
is able to provide internationally recognised professionals
in a range of fields, many of which have experience at the
highest levels of international sport. These professionals
can be used in a support role to a visiting team where the
need is required.
