Sermon NotesPastor Dave GallAugust 4, 20139:00am & 10:45amPoplar Creek Church“Helping People Follow Jesus Christ”Worship In Spirit and In TruthJohn 4:23-24Introduction: Could we have a worship indictment against us similar to theone against the Samaritans? “You Samaritans worship what you do notknow.” The Samaritans claimed to believe in the same God as the Jews, yetthey denied all Old Testament scripture except the first five books. Theyalso went against Biblical authority by building a temple themselves andoffering sacrifices therein public worship. Even worse, they incorporatedinto their worship the worship of idols.Let’s examine our worship of God. Is it like theirs? Is our worship trulyBiblical? Let’s test it with the first two commandments from Exodus 20.I. There is a relationship that’s imperative to worshipA. God’s Deity1. Any worship that does not recognize His deity is improperworship.2. The worshipper must have a proper relationship with God.B. God’s deliverance1. God reminded the Jewish people who delivered them fromslavery.2. Today’s worshipper has also been delivered through JesusChrist’s blood.C. God’s desire1. In Exodus 20:5 He says He is a jealous God.2. He is jealous of our worship.3. We are His creation bought with the price of His Son.II.There is a remembrance that impassions worshipA. The cause of our passion1. Remembering what God has done for us.2. In communion we are asked to remember Him.B. Will we bow down to Him?1. Psalm 138:2.2. Are our hearts calloused, cold or dead to the joyof the Lord?
