<strong>Electrical</strong> <strong>Apprenticeship</strong> <strong>Training</strong> <strong>Program</strong><strong>TECA</strong> <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong> RegistrationClass Schedule and Eligibility InformationAbout the <strong>Program</strong>ABC-VA partners with the Tidewater <strong>Electrical</strong> Contractors Association(<strong>TECA</strong>) to continue the tradition and service of <strong>TECA</strong>. This program willprovide your organization as well as your apprentices with quality educationexemplifying quality in instructors, curriculum, and management.The benefits of this program to the apprentice are:• Nationally recognized transcripts and certificates provided to theapprentices for every module and level completed.• Site visits by ABC-VA staff to critique/challenge the qualityof the program by interviewing students, instructors, andparticipating employers.• Quality of instructors is standardized by a 15-hour instructorcertification training program required by the NCCER.Term of <strong>Apprenticeship</strong>The term of apprenticeship consists of four years or 8,000 hours(approximately 2,000 hours per year) of on-the-job training, and fouryears or 600 hours (approximately 150 hours per year) of relatedclassroom instruction.PrerequisitesAll rising Level 1 students will be required to take a math assessment teston July 25, <strong>2012</strong> at 1:00 PM at the ABC-VA <strong>Training</strong> Facility. Studentswithout a passing grade will be required to attend a mandatory mathtutoring course August 6, 8, 13 and 15, <strong>2012</strong> from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.Price will be determined by the number of students enrolled.Class ScheduleLevel 1 - 4 will begin the week of August 27, <strong>2012</strong>. Class will meetone night per week from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Schedules will be sent toemployers once registrations have been processed.EligibilityApprentices must be at least 16 years of age, be employed in the electricalfield, have an 8 th grade education, and be physically able to perform thework of the electrical trade.CostTuition for the program is $800 per apprentice, per year for ABCmembers and $900 for non-members. The cost includes textbooks, lab,and administrative fees. Tuition must be paid in full at the time ofCourse Description By Levelregistration. No student will be allowed to begin school until tuitionhas been paid in full.TextbooksTextbooks will be provided to each student on the first night of class.Textbooks are included in the cost of tuition. Curriculum used is createdby the National Center for Construction Education and Research. *ALLstudents are required to have their own copy of the 2008NEC book. NEC Books are NOT included in tuition costs.*Late Fees & DeadlinesEnroll by August 3, <strong>2012</strong> to avoid late fees of $20 per apprentice. Noone will be enrolled after September 6, <strong>2012</strong>. Students withdrawnfrom the program after they have been enrolled will be charged a $20administrative fee with their refund if they are removed before September6, <strong>2012</strong>. There will be NO refunds after September 6, <strong>2012</strong>.Credit for Prior Knowledge/ExperienceA trainee with prior formal classroom education or extensive on-the- jobtraining experience may be eligible for credit. Such individuals must callthe ABC-VA office prior to July 27, <strong>2012</strong>. in order to determine theireligibility for credit. All other new trainees to the ABC-VA school mustregister as first-year trainees.Registration for <strong>Apprenticeship</strong> <strong>Training</strong>All apprentices that wish to enroll for the <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong> session must registerby completing the attached registration form and returning it, alongwith all applicable fees, to the ABC-VA office no later than August 3,<strong>2012</strong>. Applicable fees must be paid in full before apprentices will beenrolled in class.NOTES: <strong>TECA</strong> is managed by ABC-VA and provides participatingemployers with Advisory <strong>Apprenticeship</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Standards. ABC-VA provides and manages only the apprenticeship-related classroominstruction component of an employer’s apprenticeship program.Employers must register as apprenticeship program sponsors, andmust register their apprentices on an individual basis with the VirginiaDepartment of Labor.
