What Our Friends Are Saying“Casey House values its partnership with the Dr. Peter Centre. The Dr. Peter model is helping ourorganization shape its plan to open a day health program. A key step in this plan has been the developmentand implementation of a harm reduction policy. The Dr. Peter Centre’s advice and insight was critical tothe success of this endeavour and highlights the importance of collaboration in health care today.”Stephanie KarapitaChief Executive Officer, Casey House“Supporting the various programs at the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation has been a truly rewardingexperience for both Dignity Memorial and me. The staff and residents are an amazing group of peopleto work with. A highlight for us this year was taking 6 residents to our suite at GM Place to watch aCanucks game, something that I will never forget and hope to do again next year. We look forwardto supporting the Christmas Elf project again this year. Thank you for allowing us to be part yourorganization in the past and definitely in the future.”Robert (Bob) LeierManager, Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, A Dignity Memorial Funeral Provider“The Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation is an organization I am proud to work for. Having worked as a LicensedPractical Nurse here for five years and currently working in administration, I see how important all thedisciplines are to making this place run and to support the community we serve. It exists because of thepassion, the dedication and the hard work of all staff.”Christel MeyerAdministrative Assistant, Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation

Measuring our Performance to Ensure ImpactAt the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, we arecommitted to measuring our performance. We are committed to being accountable forproviding quality care to the people servedat Dr. Peter Centre West End, while alsoensuring that the Centre and its operationsare valued by employees, volunteers, government funders, and donors. When measuring results, we go beyondoutputs (“how many”) to look at outcomes(“the impact”). This includes measuringindicators of quality care, which arebased on national standards. It alsomeans increasing our research capacityso we can measure the health outcomesfor our participants and residents.Residence (24 suites) 07/08 08/09Number of Residents 47 37*Occupancy Rate 98.8% 99.9%Stay of 1+ Year 35% 30%* When a resident’s HIV and complex care needs are stabilized, there are currently no appropriate facilities in the communityto accommodate the individual’s combination of mental healthdiagnosis and level of serious addiction issues. Thus a decrease inthe number of residents who were admitted for stabilization.Day Health Program 07/08 08/09Number of Health Visits 18,000 21,200**Due to focus on participant engagement which includedincreased staffing, changed nursing complement and primarycontact model for new intakes. The Foundation’s Performance QualityCommittee, consisting of staff andvolunteers with performance measurementexpertise, oversees this work. We havebegun to increase our database capacitywith a new electronic records system, andare already looking forward to next year’sannual report when we can provide youwith even more indicators of success.Volunteer Metric 07/08 08/09Volunteers 120 98*Volunteer Hours 5726 5533Days of Avg Tenure 669 (1.8 years) 654 (1.8 years)* Due to shifting volunteer demographic – increasing numberof students available for only short-term commitments betweenstudies and paying jobs; challenges recruiting for longer-termcommitments.
