Doing It My Way(Continued from page 11)Life as appropriate.Service Skills Table - Use a chosen (by theplayer) Office, Department, Branch or Arm Table asappropriate. An Army character might select Artillery, for example, and thus roll on the Artillery tableinstead of the Service Table thereafter.Advanced Education - Use the NCO, Petty Officer,Field, Shipboard Life or Officer skill table asappropriate.Advanced Education (EDU 8+) - Select theCommand or Staff table as desired from term toterm, the Admin Rank table for Scouts, or the Master‟sSkills for a Merchant.Special assignments (Commando School, Attache, etc.) play a part in the acquisition of suitableskills and I would allow a single die roll at each reenlistment, with a result of 6 indicating a special as-Multimedia GalleryThe BurrowWolf:A Traveller Graphic NovelWith this issue of Freelance Traveller, we startthe presentation of The BurrowWolf: A TravellerGraphic Novel, created by David Billinghurst andDave Redington. Our current plan is to post a chapterin alternate months. As usual, we will post the portionthat appears in the magazine on our website thesignment at some point in the last four years. To ensurea fairly even number of skills per character Irecommend that a special assignment only give thecharacter one extra skill point (perhaps chosen fromthose offered, or the first one in the list). The refereemight allow the other skills listed for a special assignmentto be picked up as „default‟ (level-0) skills.Of course there are an endless number of tweaksyou could carry out on this sytem, but it should standup quite well. One thing that does need attention isthe use of enlisted ranks as DMs on the extendedsystem skill tables, particularly because the basicBook One system has no enlisted ranks. One solutionis to assume promotion of two enlisted ranks in everyfour year term. A 22 year old Marine will probablybe a Private or Lance Corporal (E1 or E2), a 26 yearold Marine will be a Corporal or Lance Sergeant (E3or E4), and so on.Happy Travelling! The BurrowWolf: A Traveller Graphic Novelfollowing month. You can also see it in a muchmore elegant presentation at Dave Redington‟swebsite, http://web.me.com/dredington/Traveller_Art/BurrowWolf/BurrowWolf.html.That site also contains chapters not yet released toFreelance Traveller, and some background informationand images (like the one below) that arenot part of the graphic novel. The actual graphicnovel starts on the next page. We hope you enjoyit.12
