Loop units– a wide range covering your basic fire detection needsWe provide a wide range of loop units for our fire detection systems. Our detectors, manual call points, I/O units, controlunits and alarm units are developed and approved according to European directives (CPD) requiring EN 54 complianceand other appropriate worldwide regulations. The loop units are available both with and without SelfVerify function. SelfVerify solves all issues of manual maintenance, leaving time consuming and costly physical testing no longer necessary. With AutroSafe SelfVerify®, the system checksall detectors, interfaces, connections and cables – from detector chamber to alarm output – every single day.Not only does the system test whether a detector is capable of provoking an alarm, it even verifies the sensitivity of everydetector with a calibrated signal. The SelfVerify system ensures that each detector always responds to the correct alarmlevel. In the event of irregularities, the display on the operating panel will accurately pinpoint the source of any problem.SelfVerify ensures that you have the safest and most reliable fire safety system available – a system ensuring optimaldetection.24 •Autronica Fire and Security AS

Novec 1230 FluidNovec 1230 Engineered Fire Suppression System is the newgeneration in gaseous fire suppression technology. Designedto protect human life and high value assets from fire, it meetsthe marine industry’s concerns for safety, performance and theenvironment.Novec 1230 fluid is a fluorinated ketone that is stored as a liquid anddischarged as a gas. It distributes uniformly throughout the hazardzone, and suppresses fire by a combination of heat absorption andchemical interference with the flame.EnvironmentWith a zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), a global warmingpotential (GWP) of just one, and an atmospheric lifetime (ALT) ofonly 5 days, Novec 1230 fluid has virtually no measurable impacton climate change. When used in a fire event, the fluid mitigates theeffect of an uncontrolled fire. At the end of the lifetime of the system, the fluid can be readily recovered and recycled.Fire suppression systemsCleanNovec 1230 fluid discharges as a colourless, electrically non-conductive and noncorrosive gas that does not damage sensitiveequipment. There is no post-discharge residue, no costly clean-up operations are required, and down-time is kept to a minimum.Cost-effectiveBy using its tried and trusted range of 25 bar equipment, Autronica can offer a cost-effective Novec 1230 fire suppressionsystem.EfficientSmall and large-scale tests have proven that Novec 1230 fluid puts fires out quickly, before they can do any serious damage. It does this by reaching extinguishing concentrations in ten seconds or less. It is effective on a wide range of Class A, B andelectrical fires.SafetyThe US EPA Significant New Alternatives Program (SNAP) classifies Novec 1230 fluid as acceptable for use as a total floodingagent in occupied spaces. A low design concentration of 4 to 6% in combination with a high No Observable Adverse Effect Level(NOAEL) of 10% means it provides a safety margin of up to 100%. This is by far the largest safety margin of any clean agentcurrently available. In addition, there is no risk of human asphyxiation with Novec 1230 fluid since it does not act by oxygendepletion in the hazard zone.System designThe Autronica Engineered Fire Suppression System comprises Novec 1230 fluid stored in cylinders connected to distributionpipework and specially designed discharge nozzles.Novec 1230 fluid is stored as a liquid in nitrogen-pressurised steel cylinders. This ensures minimal storage space and weightrequirements compared to all other viable gaseous agents. It also enables refills to be transported in unpressurised cylinderswithout the restrictions on gaseous alternatives. The range of cylinders, valves and related components has beenspecially selected for use with Novec 1230 fluid and has beensubjected to stringent testing procedures. Flexibility, quality andreliability make the Novec 1230 range the world’s finest in fire safety.Engineered systems are designed using FM Global and UL verifiedsoftware and guidelines, and offer optimum designs for the definedrisks with reduced pipe sizes, unbalanced flows and common room andvoid protection possible.ApplicationsNovec 1230 systems are ideally suited to the protection of machineryspaces and cargo pump rooms in a wide range of vessel types.Autronica Fire and Security AS • 55

Low Expansion Foam systems for Offshore Service VesselsA foam deluge system designed for the protection of the cargo area as defined by IMO Resolution A.673(16). Otherrequirements may apply depending on the class and flag, such as DnV Pt. 5 Ch.7 SECTION 10 Offshore Service Vessels forTransportation of Low Flashpoint Liquids.Cargo area is that part of the offshore support vessel where cargo and cargo vapors are likely to be present and includes cargotanks, cargo pump-rooms, hold spaces in which independent tanks are located, cofferdams surrounding integral tanks and thefollowing deck areas:• n within 3 m of a cargo tank installed on deck;• n within 3 m of a cargo tank outlet in case of independent tanks installed below deck;• n within 3 m of a cargo tank outlet in case of integral tanks installed below deck and separated from the weather deck by acofferdam;• n the deck area above an integral tank without an overlaying cofferdam plus the deck area extending transversely andlongitudinally for a distance of 3 m beyond each side of the tank;• n within 3 m of any cargo liquid or vapor pipe, flange, cargo valve, gas or vapor outlet, or entrance or ventilation opening to acargo pump-room.The foam liquid capacity shall be designed for 30 minutes operation based on the flow required by the capacity calculation. Amixture of 97% water and 3% of a alcohol resistant film forming foam liquid produce the foam, with an expansion ratio below 1:12.Alcohol-Resistant Concentrate (AR / ARC / ATC) produces foam that is effective on fuels such as methyl alcohol, ethyl alcoholand acetone which have appreciable water solubility or miscibility. Standard foam agents are mixtures of chemical (natural orsynthetic) whose bubbles collapse when applied to water-soluble fuels. These fuels are said to be foam destructive. The most current Alcohol-resistant concentrates are based on AFFF concentrates to which a water-soluble polymer(polysaccharide) has been added. When these foam agents are applied to water-soluble fuel such as methyl alcohol, apolymeric membrane is formed between the foam and the water-soluble fuel. When this foam agent is used on a conventional(water insoluble) hydrocarbon fuel, it functions as an AFFF foam by forming an aqueous film at the fuel/air interface. Since thepolymer is a natural occurring chemical, small amounts of an antimicrobial agent are added to prevent biological degradation. The solution of foam liquid and water are distributed to the various areas through a piping system. The piping system for foam solution(foam liquid and water) should be galvanised steel and foam liquid line should be acid proof stainless steel. The control of the systemis by manual means. The system can either be started from the foam pump starter cabinet, if this is located outside of the cargo area, adjacent to the accommodation spaces and readily accessible and operable in the event of fires in the areas protected.A remote start may also be installed to activate the system from a remote position. All valves except the foam liquid valve aremanually operated.58 •Autronica Fire and Security AS

Low Expansion Foam systems for Cargo Tank DeckA foam deluge system designed for the protection of thecargo area as defined in the IBC Code, 11.3.5.The rate of supply of foam solution shall be not less thanthe greatest of the following:• n.1. 2 l/min per square meter of the cargo tanks deckarea, where cargo tanks deck area means the maximumbreadth of the ship times the total longitudinal extent ofthe cargo tank spaces;• n.2. 20 l/min per square meter of the horizontal sectionalarea of the single tank having the largest such area;• n.3. 10 l/min per square meter of the area protected bythe largest monitor, such area being entirely forward of themonitor, but not less than 1,250 l/min. For ships less than4,000 tones deadweight, the minimum capacity of themonitor shall be to the satisfaction of the Administration. The foam liquid capacity shall be designed for 30 minutes operation based on the flow required by the capacity calculation.A mixture of 97% water and 3% of a film forming foam liquid produce the foam, with an expansion ratio below 1:12. If the cargois alcohol based such as methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol and acetone, alcohol resistant foam liquid has to be used. The solution of foam liquid and water are distributed to the various areas through a piping system. The piping system for foamsolution (foam liquid and water) should be galvanized steel and foam liquid line should be acid proof stainless steel. The control of the system is by manual means. The system can either be started from the foam pump starter cabinet, if this islocated outside of the cargo area, adjacent to the accommodation spaces and readily accessible and operable in the event offires in the areas protected.A remote start may also be installed to activate the system from a remote position. Low expansion foam system for open or closed car deck, shuttle ferriesA foam deluge system designed for the protection of the car deck. The deck is divided into zones with a minimum length of 20meter for passenger vehicles and 15 meter for trucks carrying dangerous goods. The capacity of the system is calculated based on minimum 6,5 l/m 2 /min for the area dedicated for passenger vehicles and 10l/m 2 /min for the area dedicated for trucks carrying dangerous goods. The capacity of the pump is designed for the zone havingthe greatest demand including the adjacent zones or the zone having the greatest demand including foam curtain aft andforward of the zone. The foam curtain shall have an additional coverage equal to 35% of the required capacity of the adjacentzones.Dedicated seawater pump(s) for the system shall be installed. The pump shall have separate feeders from main and emergencysource of power supply. The sea water pumps are supplied by the yard and/or owner and are not within the scope. The foam liquid capacity shall be designed for 30 minutes operation based on the flow required by the pump.A mixture of 97% water and 3% of a alcohol resistant film forming foam liquid produce the foam, with an expansion ratio below1:12.Alcohol-Resistant Concentrate (AR / ARC / ATC) produces a foam that is effective on fuels such as methyl alcohol, ethyl alcoholand acetone which have appreciable water solubility or miscibility. The piping system for foamsolution (foam liquid and water) should be galvanised steel and foam liquid line should be acid proof stainless steel. The control of the system is from a common control panel including start and stop of each zone, indicating lamps for systemactivated, pump started and mains power on. In addition the system can be controlled from local push buttons. The control panel is programmed in a way that the required zone valves are activated based on which zone is on fire, i.e. if zone2 is on fire and foam curtain is required to be activated fore and aft, this action is done automatically by the panel.60 •Autronica Fire and Security AS

Low-pressure water mist systems and Safe Return to PortSafe Return to PortThe Safe Return to Port amendment to the IMO SOLAS regulations was madeeffective from 1 July 2010. The goal is that a vessel remains functional even inthe case of fire or flooding in one compartment and is able to return safely to portwithout the need to abandon ship. The regulations are mandatory for passenger ships having a length of 120 metres or more or having three or more main verticalzones. These vessels have to be able to return to port after a casualty case, not exceeding a defined flooding or fire casualtythreshold, and provide all persons on board basic services in so-called ‘safe areas’. For fire casualty cases exceeding thecasualty threshold but not exceeding one main vertical fire zone, systems for supporting orderly evacuation have to be availablefor 3 hours. The low-pressure water mist solutionThe control system consists of two CPUs, each with its own program. Machinery space systems are hardwired with redundantzone valves. Manual release buttons have inputs to both CPUs.Fire suppression systemsAccommodation system zone monitoring is connected to the Ethernet ring via IE/As-I link modules.Operation / Indication are carried out by minimum two touch screens connected to the Ethernet ring. In normal operation, themain CPU is controlled. Change-over to the back-up CPU is carried out automatically or manually from either of the touchscreens. Each of the pump packages has a 100% capacity and is connected to its own dedicated sea chest. The pump package iscommon for both accommodation and machinery space systems, i.e. it is not necessary to have separate pumps for each of theapplications. The pump units is located in the foremost and aftmost main vertical zone.Zone valves for machinery space protection have 100% redundancy and should be located at the pump station. Zone valves foraccommodation are normally located outside the protected fire zone within a dedicated A0 enclosure, i.e. duplicate zone valvesare not required. If located outside A0 enclosure, the zone valves has to be duplicated..ApplicationLow-pressure water mist system for protection of accommodation area, machinery space cat. A and pump rooms, and localprotection, machinery space cat. A. If local protection is separate, i.e. not a part of the total flooding system, SRTP requirementsis not required.Typical layout according to IMO SOLAS Safe Return to PortAutronica Fire and Security AS • 65
