In addition, it has the quality of self
dropping the curtain in case of power

Instruction manual - Passive mechanical curtain drop motor type BH56
Danger: Take extreme care when operating the manual shaft.
All electrical motor connections must be off and secured before and during use of the manual shaft.
After operation remove all cranks of the back shaft, and put back the plastic cover.
Do not attempt to operate the unit before you have read and understood the instructions.

BH56 is a curtain motor with “drop” capability.
The “drop” capability is limited to some conditions that must be specially considered for any curtain system.
The unit is constructed of three main parts:
A. Gearbox, special internal construction, having the ability to be driven from the output shaft under
some torque conditions.
B. Motor, special construction, 3 phase (or single phase), with backshaft extension for manual operation
in case of power failure. Take extreme care for manual operation.
C. Electromagnetic brake, 24VDC, special construction.
When operating as a normal curtain operator, the brake is operated when motor power is off, thus securing
the system in position.
When power failure occurs, the brake is automatically released, causing the HB56 operator to be driven by
the curtain (due to its weight), enabling “open” condition of curtain.
Note: in some applications, the curtain is too short, or having too much friction, so the system does not have
enough torque for safe “back rotation” of the gearbox through the output shaft.
In such cases the system should use an “extra-weight” kit that enables the safe operation under all system’s
conditions. The “extra weight” kit consists of drum+ cable (or strap) + weight.
On the other hand, an excessive “extra weight” will cause extra loading of the motor and should be avoided.
The system must be installed and tested for the “worst case”, taking into consideration that the curtain and
parts may wear out, and friction may increase with time.
Note: increasing “extra-weight” too much will cause extra load (and higher current) during normal operation
of motor; please take care to add weight only for the needed extreme case, but not more.
The system must be checked by the user on a monthly basis, and results must be recorded on a
maintenance log.
The test will be:
A. Cause “Power off” at the 2 motors on 2 sides of house.
B. Observe that the 2 curtains are sliding down at similar speed until end of stroke, and no change has
occurred from last month’s test.
C. Record OK on log, with date and your signature.
Not performing the above regular checks will automatically cancel any warrantee.
The manufacturer warrantees the units only against failure in materials or workmenship, subject to sales
conditions, but not against any indirect damage that may be caused to poultry in any circumstances.

Regular check report for BH56 – passive “curtain drop” system
Due to the high sensitivity of the system, monthly checks are required in order to assure long range correct
operation.
Checks will be made every month, within the first week of the month.
The user must write the date of the check and sign.
Signed files should be kept by the user and copies are to be sent every year to the system’s supplier.
Check steps:
1. Cause “power off” for the 2 sides curtain motors.
2. Observe the 2 curtains when dropping. It should be similar at both sides,
and same as last month’s test.
3. Please check the motor current at both sides. Record the max. current at operation.
4. If you observe any problem or change in operation or measured current, please contact without
delay your dealer or Elram.
5. If you observe any oil leak or other problem, please contact your dealer immediately.
