BONEDr. Bone knows personally why his medicalskills are needed. His son Christiansuffered a severe combat wound in Iraq andby continuing to serve, Dr. Bone said, “Iwill have the chance to return the favor ofcaring for the wounded just as my son wascared for by a military orthopaedic surgeonin Baghdad during the Iraq War. It’s achance for me to help someone else’s son.”Dr. Levy, a well-known leader inneurosurgery, is a member of a team ofsurgeons responsible for bringing cuttingedge stroke treatment to Western New York.As director of the Endovascular StrokeService for the Gates Vascular Institute,he oversees treatment of complex largebrain aneurysms with a new minimallyinvasive pipeline embolization device.He is also a professor of neurosurgeryand radiology at the University at Buffaloand has participated in major clinicalresearch on synthetic bone, carotid arteryrevascularization and stents. The residentshe instructs have called him “a superbteacher.” Dr. Levy trains surgeons fromaround the nation, including those fromthe Cleveland Clinic, Harvard Universityand Duke University, in this lifesavingtreatment.“This award tonightis a testament to theefforts of so manypeople over thepast decade.”DR.
