November 13, 200716-07077-01-PM1Name of MunicipalityDear XXX:Re:Request for Statistical information on Bridges and Major CulvertsThe MMM Group has been retained by the Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario(RCCAO) to investigate and prepare a report on the condition of bridges and major culverts inOntario. As part of the review, we are requesting Ontario municipalities to provide us with a copy oftheir summary structural data within their jurisdiction. It is anticipated that the report will provide apreliminary understanding on the health of bridges and major culverts in Ontario and long termfunding challenges. As a brief introduction, the RCCAO was founded in the fall of 2005 representing an alliance oflabour and management stakeholder groups in the civil construction industry. The RCCAO’sobjectives are to address some of the major infrastructure challenges affecting industry and societyas a whole today, by undertaking substantive and qualitative research and provide real solutions tosome of these challenges. You can find more information about the RCCAO at their website,www.rccao.com.The MMM Group has been conducting interviews with a number of municipalities but we believe itis important to gather more substantive data on the state of bridges and major culverts acrossOntario by sending this request to a larger constituency of municipalities. We are not looking tosingle out any particular municipality or geographic area but rather to gather general statisticsacross the province. While we don’t intend on identifying specific municipalities we do believe it isimportant to recognize any differences such as between upper tier and lower tier municipalities, orurban versus rural areas. Our goal is to aggregate the data as a whole; in the event that we believeit useful to illustrate data from a specific municipality, the MMM Group will request permissionbefore doing so.1
