Page 4 F U T U R E O U T L O O KFuture Plans for the DepartmentBUILD ADDITIONAL FIRE STATION IN THE AGAFA GUMAS,PAGAT, MANGILAO AREA (DUE TO MILITARY BUILD-UP)Over the next five years the Department of Defense willtransfer 8,000 U.S. Marines and 9,000 family dependantsfrom Okinawa, Japan, to Guam. As the military buildupproceed with large number of population increase, thepublic safety is more difficult to maintain. The stations ofGFD is now focused on two district which are northern andsouthern district. It is crucial for GFD to have more stationsin different locations to respond to emergencies moreeffectively and efficiently.OTHER FUTURE OUTLOOKS FOR THE GUAM FIRE DEPARTMENT:Build a headquarters, training facility, E911 facility, supplyfacility in the same compoundHire additional personnelApply for supplemental funding via the federal grant programsofferedPURCHASE NEW FIRE TRUCKS, AMBULANCES, ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT FOR EXISTING APPARATUS, C.A.D. SYSTEM FOR E911and STATISTICAL PROGRAMS FOR ALL FIRE/EMS ALARMSThe Equipments of the GFD lacks the technology it needs to support the activities which GFD encounter. As technology develop, itis important for GFD to acquire more updated equipments to follow the trend of other countries to serve the public safety ofGuam. Guam Fire Department recently received $28,300 in personal protective equipment as the result of a settlement reachedby the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with Shell Guam for allegedly failing to submit required toxic chemical reports, aviolation of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act.ReferencesFlores, E.
