AFFF 3% AFOAM CONCENTRATEDescriptionFomtec AFFF 3% A is an aqueousfilm forming foam concentrate (AFFF)consisting of fluorocarbon andhydrocarbon surfactants blended withvarious solvents, preservatives andstabilisers. The foam forms an aqueous film thatrapidly cuts off the oxygen supply andthus knocks down the fire. Theexpanded foam from which the film isdrained forms a stable blanket thatsuppresses the release of flammablevapours and cools down the fuelsurface extinguishing the fire andpreventing re-ignition.The low surface tension of the waterfoam concentrate solution enables theaqueous film, although heavier thanthe burning liquid, to float on top ofthe liquid surface.Fomtec AFFF 3% A should be used at3% proportioned solution (3 partconcentrate in 97 parts of water) infresh or seawater. It may also bestored as a pre mix solution in freshwater.ApplicationFomtec AFFF 3% A is intended foruse on class B hydrocarbon fuel firessuch as oil, diesel and aviation fuels. It can be used with both aspiratingand non-aspirating discharge devices.Fomtec AFFF 3% A is especiallysuited whenever rapid fire knockdownis essential. It is compatible withall dry chemical powders and can beused in powder/foam twin agentsystems.Fire Performance & FoamingThe fire performance of Fomtec AFFF3% A has been tested anddocumented according to the UKMinistry Of Defence Standard 42/40and EN 1568 Part 3 at 3%proportioning. Foaming index no lessthan 7:1 (normally 8:1). 25% drainagetime 3.0 minutes (normally 3.5).ProportioningFomtec AFFF 3% A can easily be proportioned at the correct dilutionusing conventional equipment such as:• Inline inductors.• Balanced pressure, variable flow proportioning systems.• Bladder tanks.• Around the pump proportioning systems.• Water turbine driven foam proportioners.• Self inducting branch pipes and nozzles.Technical dataAppearanceSpecific gravity @ 20°CViscosity approx @ 20°CClear Amber Liquid1.015 +/- 0.01 g/ml< 20 cStpH 7.5 +/- 1.0Freezing point - 5°CPour point - 4°CSuspended sediment (v/v) Less than 0.2%Surface tension approxStorage/Shelf Life20.0 dynes/cmStored in original unbroken packaging the product will have a longshelf life. The recommended storage temperature range of FomtecAFFF 3% A is from -4°C to 55°C. Freezing and thawing will have noimpact on the performance.Synthetic foam concentrates should only be stored in stainless steel orplastic containers. Since electromagnetic corrosion can occur at jointsbetween different metals when they are in contact with foamconcentrate, only one type of metal should be used for pipelines, fittings, pumps, and tanks employed in the storage of foamconcentrates.PackagingWe supply Fomtec in 25 litre cans and 200 litre drums. We can alsoship in 1000 litre containers or in bulk.International ApprovalsFulfills the requirements of the following standard:• EN 1568, part 3Dafo Fomtec AB, P.O.
