Morrow was ATPE’s first executive director from 1980 to 1989.“Individuals choosing the field of education face many challenges for success,”Morrow says. “The target of measured achievement and individual professionalassessment is moving in the political wind. Today, politics has more to do with ourprofessional lives than any of us might have imagined. Folks new to the field ofeducation must be made aware of these factors and have a hand in shaping thepolicies and practices that will guide the future of our public schools. Participationin a professional association, in my opinion, is the most effective way to influence theintegrity and character of our classrooms.“There is no substitute for a teacher’s knowledge of the subject matter they teach. We must alsoremember who we teach and why we teach them. Professional associations assure that we do not facethe challenge alone.”Morrow began his career in education as a teacher in North East ISD, where he later served as anassistant and high school principal. He also served as the superintendent in the Windham School District.Along with his lecturer duties at SHSU, Morrow currently serves as an educational consultant specializing ineducation policy.A
