About the InstitutionK.S.Rangasamy <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Technology</strong> was started during the academicyear 1994-95 at Tiruchengode, NamakkalDistrict, Tamilnadu. The campus is functioningin an expansive area <strong>of</strong> about 350 acres inK.S.R. Kalvi Nagar located betweenTiruchengode and Erode. The institution is run<strong>by</strong> K.S.Rangasamy Educational and CharitableTrust. Within a short span <strong>of</strong> 12 years, it hasdeveloped into a pioneering institution inproviding quality technical education in ten P.Gand nine U.G programmes. The college has been awarded the ISO9001-2000 certificate for its performance.About the DepartmentThe Department <strong>of</strong> Biotechnology<strong>of</strong>fers B.Tech Biotechnology at U.G level andM.Sc Biotechnology at P.G level. TheDepartment has well established laboratories,which permit the students to work and use thefacilities at any time. The Department has 21qualified faculty members for imparting qualityeducation. The Department frequently conductsseminars, refresher courses and workshops forthe benefit <strong>of</strong> the Biotechnology students andresearch scholars to upgrade their knowledgeabout the latest technologies.About the WorkshopBiotechnology graduates are motivated tobecome entrepreneurs. Biotechnologyentrepreneurs, to quote an example, can constructBi<strong>of</strong>ertilizer manufacturing unit which can in turngenerate money. They can produceVermicomposts, Bi<strong>of</strong>ertilizers and Biocontrolagents in their places and sell in the local marketsor to farmers directly to get reasonable income.All the required bi<strong>of</strong>ormulations containingbioinoculants and biocontrol agents are easilyavailable in the agro companies for very low price.These materials are eco-friendly and economical.Project refers to the compounding <strong>of</strong> allthe activities that uses resources to gain continuousbenefits. It includes investment, production, costsand benefits. The basic resources for mushroomproduction are bio-waste/industrial waste materialssuch as paddy straw, sorghum straw, sugarcanemolasses, wood waste/saw dusts, paper millwaste, etc,. These waste materials can beproduced easily and recycled properly throughmushroom production.The various topics to be covered in the workshopare,· Bi<strong>of</strong>ertilizer preparation & evaluation· Biocontrol agents preparation· Mushroom cultivation· Vermicompost <strong>Technology</strong>· Biodiesel production· Bioprocess Engineering & <strong>Technology</strong>· Plant tissue culture lab developmentThe workshop is designed to give acomplete hands-on-training, starting from lab t<strong>of</strong>ield evaluation.
