SHORT PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Building on and being the extension and refinement of the ENCOMAR-TRANSPORT (ENHANCED CO-
OPERATION BETWEEN EU MEMBER STATES AND ASSOCIATED CANDIDATE STATES IN MARITIME
RESEARCH ON TRANSPORT), the EUROMAR-BRIDGES project had the following general strategic objectives:
1) To increase the co-operation and intensify the efforts in R&D which are vital to improve competitiveness and
technological excellence in maritime field by building the cluster comprised of companies and organizations from
EU candidate countries (CC), EU new member states (NMS) and third countries;
2) To identify valuable R&D, SMEs, and other actors with significant and original experience in the maritime and
waterborne transport and logistics field, and stimulate, encourage and facilitate the participation of organizations
from the CC and NMS by providing up-to-date information on mainly maritime related European projects;
3) To provide the contribution for Integrated and Sustainable Maritime Transport System (IMTS) in Europe by
realizing and promoting the idea of European Research Area (ERA) across the chain of stakeholders at national
level;
4) To raise the awareness of benefits coming from commonly solving problems related to IMTS; and
5) To ensure a sustainable development and security of transport by active participation of organizations from NMS
and CC.
Additionally, selected other objectives were encouraging and bringing about the participation of the members in
R&D to support programme of the EC (including breaking the mentality barriers), improving the knowledge about
maritime research activities at the European level, and increasing awareness on importance of the maritime
research. Attention was paid to show the added value as well as advantages & disadvantages, generated by
international cooperation, contribution to all participating in common R&D activities.
Crucial FP and other EU funded projects
with SME–oriented results in the sector
of logistics and transportation
Quite a large number of SMEs of different profiles have used knowledge and contacts from EUROMAR-BRIDGES
in networking and partnering, especially in an effort to participate in FP projects.
IS THE PROJECT PROMOTING/ IMPLEMENTING GREEN TECHNOLOGIES?
IF YES – HOW/ WHAT KIND?
Awareness Workshops and Brokerage Events have proven effective in introducing participants to green maritime
and intermodal transport technologies. Such was the case with the ships construction and maintenance too and
particular attention was paid to maritime and transport safety and security. Since traffic congestion throughout
European road network should be reduced by freight shift to the water and multimodal transport, water transport
should be adequately improved and strengthened, and the realization of this task requires a better knowledge. And
that was just the core of the EUROMAR-BRIDGES project.
