’I recently received a letter from a member of the Old Guardthat talks about the Norwich he went to as compared with the Norwich of today. Aformer regimental commander, he specifically cites the Corps of Cadets and howprofessional they have become. He ends his letter by saying, “I will always revere ‘myNorwich’ but will be the first to admit that today’s Norwich is a far, far better place.”The Norwich he went to is not the Norwich you attended, nor is it the Norwich ofthe Class of 2014, who arrived on the Hill this past August. This class enters a Norwichwith a Corps of Cadets that stands at 1,400—the largest in our school’s history—along with 900 civilian students. It enters a Norwich whose alumni now include 3,800graduates of our online master’s degree programs. And a Norwich whose alumni areproudly serving in Iraq and Afghanistan to combat terrorism.Norwich’s founder, Captain Alden Partridge, believed that Americans needednot only to be educated, but they needed to protect the country. As your Universitypresident, I have adhered to our founder’s mission of educating our youth in such away as to protect and build the Republic. Today, through an education grounded invalues such as honor and integrity, and undergraduate and graduate degree programsin diplomacy, information assurance, construction management, and civil engineering,we are remaining true to Partridge’s mission, a mission that has remained unchangedfor nearly 200 years. You are the ones making this possible. Your generosity is providing the margin ofexcellence that makes Norwich University an impact player on the world stage. Thequality of our incoming students, our winning athletic teams, our growing nationalreputation—all are because of you. Together, we are building on the successes of thosewho came before to make Norwich a better school—student by student, year by year, century by century. We are on a winning path, and it is all thanks to you.Norwich forever!RADMR Richard W.
