Principal’s Message
Hello Brier Families!

I hope that all of you had a restful week spent sharing
time with family and reflecting on the many things for
which we should be thankful.
Parent/Teacher conferences were a great success.
Thank you to all of you who met with your child’s teacher.
As I have said before, it takes all of us working together
to help a child reach his or her potential.
I would like to invite you all to another Coffee
Talk on Wednesday, December 7 at 8:30 in
the cafeteria. I once again look forward to
hearing your ideas and concerns.
December is a short but busy month here at Brier. We
would like to invite you all to join us for two sixth grade
Science Camp fundraisers at Bronco Billy’s on
December 5 and Panda Express on December 20. Both
of these are passport events. � Our Honor’s reception
is on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00 PM for which you will
receive an invitation if your child is on the Honor Roll.
Our 4 th -6 th grade Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday,
December 8 at 8:45 AM.
The character trait for December is Integrity: I show selfrespect
by taking pride in my words and actions. It
means doing the right thing when no one is looking.
Please speak with your child about what it means to
have self respect and integrity. We have had some
children not being responsible to do their homework and
some playground issues. Speaking with your children
about the Eight Great Traits can
positively impact this behavior.

Fremont's Got Talent 2011: Organized
by the City of Fremont.
Congratulations to Aditi B. who won Second Prize in the
12 and under age group category. Aditi performed an
Indian Solo dance. After Auditions, final event was held
on Nov 10, 2011 at Teen's center in central park.
Safety in the Parking Lot
All parking must be on the
street. Brier’s parking lot is only
available to staff, buses
and handicapped placards
and for those using the pick
up/drop off zone. Students
are to use sidewalks when entering or exiting the school.
They are not to be in the parking lot at any time.
The license plates of the following vehicles were
reported:
♦ 5ZNC860 Tan Chevy Tahoe, 4VBK357 Silver
Odyssey van and 6PCG654 Red Toyota Tercel
parked unoccupied next to the “No Parking” sign in
the red zone.
♦ 5TRV032 gray van letting children out in the middle
of traffic.
These parking lot safety rules will be strictly enforced
pursuant to the California Vehicle Code Section 21113A.
Young Authors’ Contest
Fremont Unified Young Authors’ is coming up February
2012 and we need your help. We need volunteer judges
to help pick the winners at Brier, and then to come to
the District event and pick the winners overall.
Judges will be picking up books in the week of
January 25th to 31st. They will take the books home and
judge them, then bring them back to Brier so that we
can pick our winners.
Judges will then be invited to come to a meeting at
Warm Springs on February 8th, where we will pick the
District winners.

Transitional
Kindergarten
On September 30, 2010, the
Governor signed SB 1381
establishing the Kindergarten
Readiness Act which
changed the kindergarten
entry age and established
the Transitional Kindergarten
Program. The new law goes
into effect for the 2012-2013 school year and requires
students to be 5 years old by November 1, 2012.
Students must be 5 years old by October 1, 2013 for the
2013-2014 school year and by September 1, 2014 for the
2014-2015 school year.
SB 1381 also requires school districts to establish a
Transitional Kindergarten program for those students
born between September and December. Attendance is
not required but is encouraged to help students succeed
the following year in a traditional kindergarten classroom.
The curriculum will be based on the California Preschool
Learning Foundations and aligned with the Kindergarten
Standards.
In Fremont, we have established the “High Five”
Transitional Kindergarten program to be implemented in
schools in each attendance area. One or two classes
will be Attendance Area Cluster Transition
Kindergartens. These students would attend transitional
kindergarten the first year and then kindergarten the next
year at their home school. Information regarding the
location of these classes will be provided soon.
Registration will be centralized and priority will be given
to students with November birthdays, then October, and
finally September. The exact date and location for
registration will be announced soon.
2012-2013 Enrollment
The following is information for the
2012-2013 school year enrollment.
Do you or a neighbor have an
upcoming kindergartner?
Please let them know they can
come in to pick up a packet.
NEW ENROLLEES:
Registration packets are available on December 6 in the
school office. Students entering Kindergarten must be
five years old on or before November 1, 2012.
January 18, 19, 20, 23 & 24 (Sibling Registration):
Appointments will be available for incoming kindergarten
students of current K-5 enrollees only.
Beginning January 25: Open enrollment for all other
incoming kindergarten through 6 grade students will be
held. You can make an appointment to return your
paperwork on January 25, 26, & 27. Please note that
registration is based on a first-come, first-placed basis.
