<strong>Fremont</strong>'s Got Talent 2011: Organized<br />

by the City of <strong>Fremont</strong>.<br />

Congratulations <strong>to</strong> Aditi B. who won Second Prize in the<br />

12 and under age group category. Aditi performed an<br />

Indian Solo dance. After Auditions, final event was held<br />

on Nov 10, 2011 at Teen's center in central park.<br />

Safety in the Parking Lot<br />

All parking must be on the<br />

street. Brier’s parking lot is only<br />

available <strong>to</strong> staff, buses<br />

and handicapped placards<br />

and for those using the pick<br />

up/drop off zone. Students<br />

are <strong>to</strong> use sidewalks when entering or exiting the school.<br />

They are not <strong>to</strong> be in the parking lot at any time.<br />

The license plates of the following vehicles were<br />

reported:<br />

♦ 5ZNC860 Tan Chevy Tahoe, 4VBK357 Silver<br />

Odyssey van and 6PCG654 Red Toyota Tercel<br />

parked unoccupied next <strong>to</strong> the “No Parking” sign in<br />

the red zone.<br />

♦ 5TRV032 gray van letting children out in the middle<br />

of traffic.<br />

These parking lot safety rules will be strictly enforced<br />

pursuant <strong>to</strong> the California Vehicle Code Section 21113A.<br />

Young Authors’ Contest<br />

<strong>Fremont</strong> <strong>Unified</strong> Young Authors’ is coming up February<br />

2012 and we need your help. We need volunteer judges<br />

<strong>to</strong> help pick the winners at Brier, and then <strong>to</strong> come <strong>to</strong><br />

the <strong>District</strong> event and pick the winners overall.<br />

Judges will be picking up books in the week of<br />

January 25th <strong>to</strong> 31st. They will take the books home and<br />

judge them, then bring them back <strong>to</strong> Brier so that we<br />

can pick our winners.<br />

Judges will then be invited <strong>to</strong> come <strong>to</strong> a meeting at<br />

Warm Springs on February 8th, where we will pick the<br />

<strong>District</strong> winners.<br />

Transitional<br />

Kindergarten<br />

On September 30, 2010, the<br />

Governor signed SB 1381<br />

establishing the Kindergarten<br />

Readiness Act which<br />

changed the kindergarten<br />

entry age and established<br />

the Transitional Kindergarten<br />

Program. The new law goes<br />

in<strong>to</strong> effect for the 2012-2013 school year and requires<br />

students <strong>to</strong> be 5 years old by November 1, 2012.<br />

Students must be 5 years old by Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 1, 2013 for the<br />

2013-2014 school year and by September 1, 2014 for the<br />

2014-2015 school year.<br />

SB 1381 also requires school districts <strong>to</strong> establish a<br />

Transitional Kindergarten program for those students<br />

born between September and December. Attendance is<br />

not required but is encouraged <strong>to</strong> help students succeed<br />

the following year in a traditional kindergarten classroom.<br />

The curriculum will be based on the California Preschool<br />

Learning Foundations and aligned with the Kindergarten<br />

Standards.<br />

In <strong>Fremont</strong>, we have established the “High Five”<br />

Transitional Kindergarten program <strong>to</strong> be implemented in<br />

schools in each attendance area. One or two classes<br />

will be Attendance Area Cluster Transition<br />

Kindergartens. These students would attend transitional<br />

kindergarten the first year and then kindergarten the next<br />

year at their home school. Information regarding the<br />

location of these classes will be provided soon.<br />

Registration will be centralized and priority will be given<br />

<strong>to</strong> students with November birthdays, then Oc<strong>to</strong>ber, and<br />

finally September. The exact date and location for<br />

registration will be announced soon.<br />

2012-2013 Enrollment<br />

The following is information for the<br />

2012-2013 school year enrollment.<br />

Do you or a neighbor have an<br />

upcoming kindergartner?<br />

Please let them know they can<br />

come in <strong>to</strong> pick up a packet.<br />

NEW ENROLLEES:<br />

Registration packets are available on December 6 in the<br />

school office. Students entering Kindergarten must be<br />

five years old on or before November 1, 2012.<br />

January 18, 19, 20, 23 & 24 (Sibling Registration):<br />

Appointments will be available for incoming kindergarten<br />

students of current K-5 enrollees only.<br />

Beginning January 25: Open enrollment for all other<br />

incoming kindergarten through 6 grade students will be<br />

held. You can make an appointment <strong>to</strong> return your<br />

paperwork on January 25, 26, & 27. Please note that<br />

registration is based on a first-come, first-placed basis.
