<strong>2013</strong> SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDECOMPETITIon RULesDETERMINING WINNERS of <strong>Super</strong> RUGBY FINALSSeries MATCHESIf the teams are tied at fulltime in any Finals Series Match then thefollowing will apply until a winner is found:(a) Extra Time – played in two 10 minute periods witha two‐minute half-time(b) Sudden Death – played for up to 10 minutes withthe first team to score declared the winner(c) Kicking CompetitionMATCH CANCELLATIONS and ABANDONMENTIn the event of a Match having to be cancelled or abandoned for anyreason whatsoever, the following procedure shall apply:(i) In the event of a match being cancelled prior to match day,SANZAR will decide, based on all facts, the outcome of thematch. The SANZAR Operations Manager will prepare adetailed report to the SANZAR CEO for consideration by theSANZAR Executive Committee.(ii) Where a match has been abandoned either at half-time orat any time in the second half the result shall stand;(iii) Where a match has been abandoned during the first half theresult shall be declared as a draw; and(iv) In the case of a Final, should the match be abandoned in the(v)first half; the finalists shall become the joint winners.In the case of a Semi Final, including in the case of a drawresulting from (iii) above, the following shall apply;(vi) The Team scoring the most tries in the semi-final will bedeclared the winner.(vii) If the Teams are still tied after applying (a) above, the winnerwill be the Team with the higher Playoff Ranking following theRegular Season.MATCH OFFICIALSAll referee appointments for <strong>Super</strong> <strong>Rugby</strong> matches will be made bythe SANZAR Referee Selectors. These will be advised in 3-4 weekblocks, as the competition unfolds. The appointment process isbased on “merit selection”. Where possible, the Selectors haveagreed to avoid a referee appointed to his home franchise.Some of the information contained in this section has beensummarised. Please contact SANZAR or your national union for thefull text of these rules and policies and to seek further informationon the rules.10
