Produce Excellent Employees
At the March Monthly Membership Luncheon
our speaker, Julia Robinson of Stellar Solutions,
talked about how crucial it is to have the right
employees in the right positions at your business.
Something that can get you on the right track is to
have an accurate job description for each position in
your company. Defining the job correctly and hiring
the right employee are critical to your business success.
Poor job descriptions lead to confusion and
frustration by all. Bad employee choices cost companies

YMCA looking for businesses/organizations

The 2011 YMCA Healthy Kids Day is
a national event being held on April 16;
locally, the Skagit Valley Family YMCA
will host Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA
Sports Center in Bakerview Park, 10am-
1pm. We are inviting local businesses/organizations
that promote healthy
lifestyles in one or another to set up displays
and provide activities at Healthy
Kids Day. We’ve had more than 500 kids
attend Healthy Kids Day the past couple

Agency Hands in the Community Award
Local Allstate agent Annette Booth
was recently awarded the Agency Hands in
the Community Award for her commitment
to the Skagit County Boys & Girls
Club. With this award comes a $1000
grant from The Allstate Foundation to a
charitable organization in the community.
Booth chose the Boys and Girls Club. “It
truly is a joy to give back to our community,
and I am proud to receive this award
from Allstate on behalf of the Skagit
County Boys and Girls Club”, said Booth.

receives ACF certification
The Skagit Valley College (SVC)
Culinary Arts and Hospitality
Management program has earned a sevenyear
certification by the American Culinary
Federation (ACF). Of the 11 post-secondary
schools in Washington state that are
ACF certified, SVC has the distinction of
being in the top 20% by achieving the prestigious
level of “no non-compliance.”
“Receiving ACF Certification makes our
program highly attractive to students who
are looking for a top training program,”
said department co-chair Dani Cox.
McAdams Wright Ragen adds new advisors
to Mount Vernon office
McAdams Wright Ragen has added
new advisors to its recently established
Mount Vernon office. Joining him over these
past few months are veteran advisors Chris
Jensen, Corey Mendoza, Jeff Stewart, David
Ryberg and David Reep, all formerly of
Ragen MacKenzie/Wells Fargo Investments.

Skagit Farmers Supply opens new retail
store in Sedro-Woolley
Skagit Farmers Supply has completed
construction of its new Country Store in
Sedro-Woolley. “It boasts over 12,000
square feet of retail floor space and 5,000
square feet in the warehouse. There is a
wonderful garden center outside and additional
storage for wood pellets, shavings
and fencing materials. Inside you will find
pet food, animal health supplies, bird seed,
tack, garden tools, clothing, fertilizer, seed,
and much more. We have also added nine
new members to our staff, which is very

Skagit Valley College joins Achieving the
Dream
Signifying its strong commitment to
student success and completion, Skagit
Valley College (SVC) is one of 30 community
colleges nationwide selected for the
Achieving the Dream 2011 network. SVC’s
selection was the result of a competitive
grant application process and includes a
$250,000 grant award over the course of
four years. Achieving the Dream, a national
non-profit organization, is the leading
national community college reform network
of 160 colleges committed to
