Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA)
Established in 1817, the Koenig & Bauer group (KBA) is
today the second-biggest press manufacturer worldwide
and its 6,000-strong workforce generates annual sales of
around €1.2bn. Along with production plants in Germany,
Austria and the Czech Republic KBA also operates a global
sales and service network. It exports over 80 per cent of its
total output. The group’s banner, People & Print, reflects
a focus on innovation for the benefit of printers the world
over. This ongoing process innovation and the broadest
product range of all vendors in volume and niche markets
ensure a unique level of expertise in print production.
Commercial and newspaper web presses are developed,
produced and distributed by KBA’s main factory in Würz-
burg, assembly plant in Trennfeld and subsidiary KBA-FT
Engineering. Alongside commercial presses for 16 to 80
pages and special presses for books and inserts, KBA builds
newspaper presses in a wide choice of configurations and
performance classes to meet the needs of a market in
transition. They include three compact models: the highly
automated KBA Cortina and the KBA Commander CT
with splittable printing units and the conventional KBA
Commander CL.
KBA’s plant in Radebeul, near Dresden, makes customised
Rapida sheetfed offset presses for printing commercials,
books, labels and packaging in a range of formats from
medium to superlarge. The SRA2 Rapida 66 and
B2 Rapida 75 are built by Czech subsidiary KBA-Grafitec
in Dobruška. KBA is the market leader in large-format
and packaging presses and a driver of advances in press
technology and processes.
KBA also maintains a strong position in niche markets
through subsidiaries in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The world’s second-biggest press vendor offers metaldecorating
presses, installations and systems for printing
banknotes and securities, and waterless UV offset presses
for printing plastic film, cards and data storage media.
Other products include inkjet, laser, hot-stamping and
thermal transfer coding systems for diverse branches of
industry.
