CMT isthe Europe’s largest public exhibitionfor tourism and leisure besidecaravan and motor which was stagedat the New Stuttgart Trade FairCentre from January 17- January 25,2009. NGCCI has been coordinatingthe country’s participation in CMTat Stuttgart, Germany since 1994.Six travel tour operators participatedas exhibitors in the Nepal Stallnamely Nature Trail Travel & ToursPrivate Limited, Royal Mt. TrekkingPvt. Ltd., Himalayan Waves TrekkingPvt. Ltd, Om - Mane Trekking P.Ltd., Sherpa Society P. Ltd and TheTrek Nepal Int’l P. LtdExecutive Member Mr. HerbertWesely and CEO Ms SaraswatiMaharjan from NGCCI and Mr.Lekhnath Bhusal, Senior Officerfrom NTB officially represented theCMT 2009 Fair.Nepal Stand, the Hall no. 4 B 15 theRow stall of 35 sqm with 2 sidesopen in the front and at the right sideat the main entrance of the main HallLord Mayor of Stuttgart Dr. Wolfgang Schuster, Honorary Consul <strong>General</strong>,Mrs. Ann-Katrin Bauknecht, NGCCI CEO Ms. Saraswati Maharjan and theparticipants at Nepal stall .No. 4 was the most prominent hall atprime location at the entrance next toStall of India and just opposite of thestall of Romania, the partner countryfor CMT 2009.The big Nepal map with majortourism attraction of different partsof Nepal, Shyambhu Stupa at thetop were able to reflect the glimpseof Nepal which attracted lot morevisitors at the Nepal stall.On the Opening Day on Jan 17,Lord Mayor of Stuttgart Dr.Wolfgang Schuster and other VIPguests visited Nepal Stall. He waswarmly welcomed by Mrs. AnnKatrin Bauknecht, Honorary Consul<strong>General</strong> of Stuttgart, Ms. SaraswatiMaharjan, CEO of NGCCI and Mr.Lekhnath Bhsual Senior Officer,NTB and all the participants at theNepal Stand. CEO Ms. Maharjanpresented token of appreciation toDr. Schuster.Nepal Press Conference wasorganized on January 20, 2009 at2.00 p.m. at the ICS- Press Center inGlass Cubus C 4.2 of the new TradeFair Centre, Stuttgart. The PressConference was attended by Nationaland International Journalists includingrepresentative from CMT Messe.A new and attractive DVD waspresented by Nepal Tourism Boardshowing prominent features andgiving important information aboutNepal, Nepalese culture, nature andadventure tourism and other majorattractions of Nepal.Questions regarding Plant a Tree inNepal Programme, waste situationin Mt. Everest, government actionto reduce influx of inexperiencedmountaineers who want to climbMt. Everest and overland routefor tourists to Nepalwere raised by thejournalists. On behalfof participants Mr.Manfred Hartl, BusinessPartner, Om - ManeTrekking P. Ltd. and Mr.Deepak S.B Bhandaryfrom Himalyan WavesTrekking respondedto queries. Otherparticipants were alsopresent at the PressConference. Thejournalists alsovisited NepalStall after thePress Conference.CMT 2009 has beenexceptional with regard tothe tourism sector and hascontinued to build on itsposition as the innovativeplatform for camping andcaravanning for the entiresouth German region. Despite theglobal economic crisis it has beenable to attract more than 205,000visitors from all over Germany andfrom Austria, France and Switzerlandand 1900 exhibitors from around 100countries.German AmbassadorHonored as HonoraryPresident of NGCCIAmbassador of the Federal Republicof Germany to Nepal H.E. MsVerena Gräfin von Roedern and Ms.Ulrike Kochalski, Third Secretary,Economic, Development andConsular Affairs visited the NGCCISecretariat on November 14, 2008.President Mr. Thapaliya and theNGCCI Board Members warmlywelcomed H.E. Ms Rodern and Ms.Kolchalski.President Mr. Thapaliya introducedall Executive Board Members andbriefed activities conducted byNGCCI and upcoming activities.He honored H.E. Ms. Rodern byoffering an Honorary PresidentBadge of NGCCI and urged H.E Ms.Roedern for her active involvement,advice and suggestions for Chamberactivities. He remarked that theGerman Embassy has been alwayssupportive for NGCCI activities andadded NGCCI has been workingclosely with German Embassy fordissemination of business informationand promoting economic activitiesbetween Nepal and Germany.Her Excellency thanked all ExecutiveMembers for the honor and welcome.She pledged full support for thedemocratically elected government.She mentioned, the election was fairwhich is the starting point for peaceprocess, expectation of people is veryhigh so parties should work togetherto build the nation. without business organizations soemphasized on frequent exchangeand interaction between the businesscommunity and political leaders.Her Excellency expressed happinessto work together with NGCCI. Visarelated issues and other matters ofmutual interest were also discussedat the meeting.Cooperation with CIMPresident Mr. Rohini Thapaliya hadmeeting with Mr. Simon Triebel, AsiaCoordinator, Centre for InternationalMigration and Development (CIM)in October for the CIM Expert atNGCCI. Vice President Mr. SenonDorje Lama had follow up meetingwith Mr. Triebel in March.NGCCI has sent request forthe Programme Manager forprogrammes and projects and furtherenhance the capacity of NGCCI andreceived Approval Letter from CIMhead office on Dec. 18. 2008. CIMhas already included NGCCI as acooperation partner.CIM has announced vacancy forExpert at NGCCI, the recruitmentprocess will start soon.The Centre for International Migrationand Development (CIM) is the humanresources placement organisation forGerman Development Cooperation.It is supported by two strongpartners: the Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Technische Zusammenarbeit(GTZ) GmbH – German TechnicalCooperation – and the GermanFederal Employment Agency (BA).Cooperation with DIHKNGCCI had series of communicationsand coordinations with Dr. SabineHepperle, Chief Asia Pacific, DIHK,The Association of German Chambersof Industry and Commerce. DIHK isthe central organization of all chambersin Germany and German ChamberNetwork (AHK) abroad. It consists of binationalGerman Chambers, Delegationsand Representations of German Industryand Commerce. DIHK has includedNGCCI in their network for informationdissemination. For other areas DIHK willco-operate NGCCI via their network inIndo-German Chamber IGCC in Delhi.President Mr. Thapaliya had also briefmeeting with Dr. Hepperle duringDelegation Programme in Berlin inMarch 2009.NGCCI being the bi-nationalChamber working with Germanystrongly envisages building upand strengthening the workingrelation with related institutionand organization in Germany.Developing relation with DIHK willprovide access to broad informationexchange network and definitelyfacilitate to increase more contactsbetween the business communitiesof the two countries.A clear sense of directionin difficult times: buildingconfidence - utilisingopportunitiesThe German government hasforecasted that real GDP will declineby 6.0% on average in 2009. For2010, the government expects agrowth rate of 0.5%.The massiveeconomic slowdown is the centralfactor influencing economic trends in2009. The sharp downturn in foreigntrade will account for roughly threequarters of the decline in economicgrowth. However, following thesteep drop-off in economic activityin early 2009, the governmentexpects the economy to stabilise ata lower level throughout the rest ofthe year.The economic setback expected in2009 is overwhelmingly the resultof the massive contraction of theglobal economy and the associateddeep slump inGerman exports.It would do littlegood to trivialisethe impact that theglobal economiccrisis is havingon production,employment andincomes.However, byadopting twostimulus packages -which are exemplaryeven when comparedto other countries -Germany has made acrucial contributionat the national levelto help mitigate thedownswing.The furtherstabilisation ofthe banking andfinancial sectors remains the biggestchallenge Germany faces in puttingthe economy back on track towardsustained growth. For this reason,one of the top priorities is to find aquick and sustainable solution to theproblem of isolating toxic assets onbank balance sheets.Exports are likely to declinesubstantially in 2009 but areexpected to rebound in 2010 as theworld economy stabilises. Investmentsin plant and equipment are being cutback sharply as well. Constructioninvestment will fall this year but willincrease slightly in 2010, in part dueto the direct, supportive impact ofthe German government’s stimulusprogramme. Due to the economy’stremendous slowdown, unemploymentis expected to rise by about 450,000 in2009 to an annual average of roughly 3.7million persons, and by about 900,000 in2010 to an annual average of roughly 4.6million persons. Nevertheless, consumerspending is expected to decline onlyslightly during the projection period. Thisis because the measures contained in thestimulus packages - including incometax cuts, lower rates of contribution tostatutory health insurance, the childbonus and an increase in pensions- are providing a boost to incomes.As a result, consumer spending willbe a crucial force for stabilising theeconomy in 2009.Source: Federal Ministry of Economicsand TechnologyNew Members of NGCCINGCCI has enrolled six new members namely:1.
