MsVerena Gräfin von Roedern and Ms.Ulrike Kochalski, Third Secretary,Economic, Development andConsular Affairs visited the NGCCISecretariat on November 14, 2008.President Mr. Thapaliya and theNGCCI Board Members warmlywelcomed H.E. Ms Rodern and Ms.Kolchalski.President Mr. Thapaliya introducedall Executive Board Members andbriefed activities conducted byNGCCI and upcoming activities.He honored H.E. Ms. Rodern byoffering an Honorary PresidentBadge of NGCCI and urged H.E Ms.Roedern for her active involvement,advice and suggestions for Chamberactivities. Vice President Mr. SenonDorje Lama had follow up meetingwith Mr. Triebel in March.NGCCI has sent request forthe Programme Manager forprogrammes and projects and furtherenhance the capacity of NGCCI andreceived Approval Letter from CIMhead office on Dec. 18. 2008. CIMhas already included NGCCI as acooperation partner.CIM has announced vacancy forExpert at NGCCI, the recruitmentprocess will start soon.The Centre for International Migrationand Development (CIM) is the humanresources placement organisation forGerman Development Cooperation.It is supported by two strongpartners: the Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Technische Zusammenarbeit(GTZ) GmbH – German TechnicalCooperation – and the GermanFederal Employment Agency (BA).Cooperation with DIHKNGCCI had series of communicationsand coordinations with Dr. SabineHepperle, Chief Asia Pacific, DIHK,The Association of German Chambersof Industry and Commerce. DIHK isthe central organization of all chambersin Germany and German ChamberNetwork (AHK) abroad. It consists of binationalGerman Chambers, Delegationsand Representations of German Industryand Commerce. DIHK has includedNGCCI in their network for informationdissemination. For other areas DIHK willco-operate NGCCI via their network inIndo-German Chamber IGCC in Delhi.President Mr. Thapaliya had also briefmeeting with Dr. Hepperle duringDelegation Programme in Berlin inMarch 2009.NGCCI being the bi-nationalChamber working with Germanystrongly envisages building upand strengthening the workingrelation with related institutionand organization in Germany.Developing relation with DIHK willprovide access to broad informationexchange network and definitelyfacilitate to increase more contactsbetween the business communitiesof the two countries.A clear sense of directionin difficult times: buildingconfidence - utilisingopportunitiesThe German government hasforecasted that real GDP will declineby 6.0% on average in 2009. For2010, the government expects agrowth rate of 0.5%.The massiveeconomic slowdown is the centralfactor influencing economic trends in2009. The sharp downturn in foreigntrade will account for roughly threequarters of the decline in economicgrowth. However, following thesteep drop-off in economic activityin early 2009, the governmentexpects the economy to stabilise ata lower level throughout the rest ofthe year.The economic setback expected in2009 is overwhelmingly the resultof the massive contraction of theglobal economy and the associateddeep slump inGerman exports.It would do littlegood to trivialisethe impact that theglobal economiccrisis is havingon production,employment andincomes.However, byadopting twostimulus packages -which are exemplaryeven when comparedto other countries -Germany has made acrucial contributionat the national levelto help mitigate thedownswing.The furtherstabilisation ofthe banking andfinancial sectors remains the biggestchallenge Germany faces in puttingthe economy back on track towardsustained growth. For this reason,one of the top priorities is to find aquick and sustainable solution to theproblem of isolating toxic assets onbank balance sheets.Exports are likely to declinesubstantially in 2009 but areexpected to rebound in 2010 as theworld economy stabilises. Investmentsin plant and equipment are being cutback sharply as well. Constructioninvestment will fall this year but willincrease slightly in 2010, in part dueto the direct, supportive impact ofthe German government’s stimulusprogramme. Due to the economy’stremendous slowdown, unemploymentis expected to rise by about 450,000 in2009 to an annual average of roughly 3.7million persons, and by about 900,000 in2010 to an annual average of roughly 4.6million persons. Nevertheless, consumerspending is expected to decline onlyslightly during the projection period.
