Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, foster fathers, fathers-tobe,
godfathers, single parent fathers and to all who serve as guardians of their families. Happy day to all men of
the parish who strive to follow the example of Saint Joseph, foster father of Jesus. Happy Father’s Day to the
spiritual fathers of our parish, too. You will be remembered in our prayers in a special way at all Masses
celebrated on Father’s Day.
This is a prayer that you might want to use at your family gatherings today or as a private prayer:
God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things.
Bless our father. Let the example of his faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, his family, may honor him always
with a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
If your father is present, you might want to extend your hands and pray this special blessing:
May God, who gives life on earth and in heaven,
lead you to walk by the light of faith
and so help you and your children
to attain the good things Christ has promised us. Amen.
**********
Did you know that the first Mother’s Day was celebrated in 1914, but a day honoring fathers did not become
official until 1966, when President Lyndon Johnson declared that the third Sunday in June would be Father’s
Day? President Richard Nixon made this proclamation permanent in 1972, but that does not mean that this day
was not celebrated before this time.
The idea for Father’s Day is attributed to Sonora Dodd, who was raised by her father after her mother’s death
during childbirth. While listening to a sermon at church on Mother’s Day, she thought about all her father had
done for her and her siblings and decided that fathers should have a day, too. Because her father was born in
June, she encouraged churches in her area, Spokane, Washington, to honor fathers during that month. Thus, the
first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane in 1910.
Over the years, the idea spread, and people lobbied Congress to formally establish this day. In 1916, President
Woodrow Wilson, who had signed a proclamation establishing Mother’s Day, approved the idea, but never
signed an official proclamation for it. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge made it a national event to “establish
more intimate relations between fathers and their children and to impress upon fathers the full measure of their
obligations.”
Saint Fabian Family Fest and Carnival 2012 is officially over, but the memories of the fun and fellowship will
last for a long time. This note is for Carnival Chairpersons: We will meet on Wednesday, July 25 th , at 7:30
P.M. in Room 5 to look ahead to next year.
If people other than Chairpersons have a suggestion – or a criticism – please leave a note in the “What the new
guy should know” box on the table in the narthex. I will present your thoughts to the coordinating team at the
meeting in July.
Thank you to all who helped make this event a success. Thank you to all who volunteered their time and energy
at this great event, our major parish fund-raiser for the year.

READING 1 - EZEKIEL 17:22-24
Thus says the Lord GOD:
I, too, will take from the crest of the cedar,
from its topmost branches tear off a tender shoot,
and plant it on a high and lofty mountain;
on the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it.
It shall put forth branches and bear fruit,
and become a majestic cedar.
Birds of every kind shall dwell beneath it,
every winged thing in the shade of its boughs.
And all the trees of the field shall know
that I, the LORD,
bring low the high tree,
lift high the lowly tree,
wither up the green tree,
and make the withered tree bloom.
As I, the LORD, have spoken, so will I do.
READING 2 - 2 CORINTHIANS 5:6-10
Brothers and sisters:
We are always courageous,
although we know that while we are at home in the
body
we are away from the Lord,
for we walk by faith, not by sight.
Yet we are courageous,
and we would rather leave the body and go home to the
Lord.
Therefore, we aspire to please him,
whether we are at home or away.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of
Christ,
so that each may receive recompense,
according to what he did in the body, whether good or
evil.
READINGS FOR THIS WEEKEND
GOSPEL - MARK 4:26-34
Jesus said to the crowds:
"This is how it is with the kingdom of God;
it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land
and would sleep and rise night and day
and through it all the seed would sprout and grow,
he knows not how.
Of its own accord the land yields fruit,
first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the
ear.
And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once,
for the harvest has come."
He said,
"To what shall we compare the kingdom of God,
or what parable can we use for it?
It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the
ground,
is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth.
But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the
largest of plants
and puts forth large branches,
so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade."
With many such parables
he spoke the word to them as they were able to
understand it.
Without parables he did not speak to them,
but to his own disciples he explained everything in
private.

What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad
READINGS FOR THE WEEK
Thank you to all those who
participated in the
SPRED Mass of Thanksgiving
held last weekend at the
9:30 a.m. Mass.
Fr. Bob Kash did a fine job presiding
over our Mass and supporting our
ministry. His homily was one of the
best.
Deacon Charlie assisted Fr. Kash during the
Mass as well as helping with all the gifts the
SPRED students brought up. The goal of the Mass
is to get all the students and catechists involved in
some form or another in the Mass. All of our
“special friends” and catechists did a fine job,
especially in singing their favorite song, “God Is So
Good”! Thank you to Joseph for his musical
talents. Parents, thank you for bringing your
families out to worship together and for all the
wonderful items that you brought for our Agape
afterward. Thank you to our Pastor, Peter
Cyscon, for supporting this program, for without
his blessing, we would not be here. I have
received many nice compliments of how people
were moved at the Mass and some even said they
didn’t know that we had such a program in our
parish!
Please support Bella Florist at 71st & Roberts
Road. They donated all the flowers for the
procession and for the tables in the hall. These
flowers have been planted in front of the rectory to
add some color and continue to give us joy as we
welcome our visitors.
See you all again in 2013 — and remember...
Deacon Charlie’s Corner
Hi! Well the Carnival for this year is
history. I hope many of you got to enjoy it.
As for me, I have said often I enjoy the food
and it is good to see people enjoying
themselves. Our prayers were really
answered. No rain and the weather was
basically comfortable. How hard the committee
and volunteers worked in putting it all together
to make it a success and a special thanks to
Deacon Kevin who had a great deal of
responsibility, which he did a really fine job.
Today is a special day... it’s “Father’s Day.” I
wish all Fathers a very good day! I think of my dad
often and remember how special he
was to me. He has been gone a long
time now, but his memory lives on
in my heart and I’ll be forever
grateful for that gift! I pray the
Lord’s blessing on all Father’s this
day, that He will give them strength
and wisdom in raising their families
(for times are so incredibly different today, in
comparison when many of us were growing up).
In our Gospel this week from Mark, Jesus uses
a parable ~ of a man who scatters seed on the
ground, but no one knows how it
grows, although it springs up of
it’s own accord and it yields fruit.
Jesus then goes on to say, how a
mustard seed when it is sown in
the ground is the smallest of
seeds, but grows and becomes
the largest of plants that birds
make nests in its branches. He spoke to them in
parables so they would understand, since farming
was their trade. As we can see, Jesus put it in a
language that the people of that day could understand.
Now the question is ~ do we understand?
Do we spread the Word of the Kingdom through
the way we live? If we do, people will see it and
understand.
Walk with King Jesus and be a blessing,
Deacon Charlie
Verse for the Week:
Thank you, God, for being our Father, Shepherd,
Guardian, and Guide. We will never outgrow our
need
for Your love and care. We want to seek You
with all our heart that we might know You intimately.
Thought for the Week:
The heavenly Father’s arms never tire of holding His
children.

PIERWSZE CZYTANIE
Bóg podwyższa drzewo niskie
Czytanie z Księgi proroka
Ezechiela
Ez 17,22-24
To mówi Pan Bóg:
„Ja także wezmę wierzchołek z wysokiego
cedru i zasadzę, u najwyższych
jego pędów ułamię
gałązkę i zasadzę ją na górze
wyniosłej i wysokiej.
Na wysokiej górze izraelskiej ją
zasadzę. Ona wypuści gałązki i
wyda owoc, i stanie się cedrem
wspaniałym. Wszystko ptactwo pod
nim zamieszka, wszystkie istoty
skrzydlate zamieszkają w cieniu
jego gałęzi.
I wszystkie drzewa polne poznają,
że Ja jestem Panem, który poniża
drzewo wysokie, który drzewo
niskie wywyższa, który sprawia, że
drzewo zielone usycha, który
zieloność daje drzewu suchemu. Ja,
Pan, rzekłem i to uczynię”.
Oto słowo Boże.
PSALM RESPONSORYJNY
Ps 92,2-3.13-14.15-16
Refren: Dobrze jest śpiewać, Tobie,
Panie Boże.
Dobrze jest dziękować Panu
i śpiewać Twemu imieniu, Najwyższy:
z rana głosić Twoją łaskawość,
a wierność Twoją nocami.
Sprawiedliwy zakwitnie jak palma,
rozrośnie się jak cedr na Libanie.
Zasadzeni w domu Pańskim
rozkwitną na dziedzińcach naszego
CZYTANIA NA NIEDZIELĘ
Boga.
Nawet i w starości wydadzą owoc,
zawsze pełni życiodajnych soków,
aby świadczyć, że Pan jest
sprawiedliwy,
On Opoką moją i nie ma w Nim
nieprawości.
DRUGIE CZYTANIE
Staramy się podobać Bogu
Czytanie z Drugiego Listu świętego
Pawła Apostoła do Koryntian
2 Kor 5,6-10
Bracia:
Mając ufność, wiemy, że jak długo
pozostajemy w ciele, jesteśmy pielgrzymami
z daleka od Pana. Albowiem
według wiary, a nie dzięki
widzeniu postępujemy. Mamy jednak
nadzieję i chcielibyśmy raczej
opuścić nasze ciało i stanąć w
obliczu Pana.
Dlatego też staramy się Jemu podobać,
czy to gdy z Nim jesteśmy, czy
gdy z daleka od Niego. Wszyscy
bowiem musimy stanąć przed trybunałem
Chrystusa, aby każdy otrzymał
zapłatę za uczynki dokonane w
ciele, złe lub dobre.
Oto słowo Boże.
ŚPIEW PRZED EWANGELIĄ
Alleluja, alleluja, alleluja
Ziarnem jest słowo Boże, a siewcą
jest Chrystus,
każdy, kto Go znajdzie, będzie żył
na wieki.
Alleluja, alleluja, alleluja
EWANGELIA
Przypowieść o ziarnku gorczycy
Słowa Ewangelii według świętego
Marka
Mk 4,26-34
Jezus powiedział do tłumów:
„Z królestwem Bożym dzieje się
tak, jak gdyby ktoś nasienie wrzucił
w ziemię. Czy śpi, czy czuwa, we
dnie i w nocy nasienie kiełkuje i
rośnie, on sam nie wie jak. Ziemia
sama z siebie wydaje plon, najpierw
źdźbło, potem kłos, a potem pełne
ziarno w kłosie. A gdy stan zboża na
to pozwala, zaraz zapuszcza sierp,
bo pora już na żniwo”.
Mówił jeszcze: „Z czym porównamy
królestwo Boże lub w jakiej
przypowieści je przedstawimy? Jest
ono jak ziarnko gorczycy; gdy się je
wsiewa w ziemię, jest najmniejsze
ze wszystkich nasion na ziemi. Lecz
wsiane, wyrasta i staje się większe
od innych jarzyn; wypuszcza wielkie
gałęzie, tak że ptaki powietrzne
gnieżdżą się w jego cieniu”.
W wielu takich przypowieściach
głosił im naukę, o ile mogli ją zrozumieć.
A bez przypowieści nie
przemawiał do nich. Osobno zaś
objaśniał wszystko swoim uczniom.
Oto słowo Pańskie.
