The University’s history dates back to the1700s, but what is called SLU today was founded in 1977. Courses tend tofocus on veterinary science, agronomy and landscape architecture. In 2011,the University was ranked one of Sweden’s top three and the campus is locatedjust south of the centre of Ultuna.May Day celebrations30th April is the students’ day, but everyone in <strong>Uppsala</strong> joins in. The dayincludes rafting on the river Fyris, a herring lunch, the champagne gallop inone of the student associations’ gardens, a picnic in one of the many parks,the student cap ceremony at Carolinabacken and the evening celebrationswith choral singing at the castle’s Gunillaklocka (bell) or a bonfire.
