Required courses <strong>of</strong> theseprogrammes are accessible to both Cantonese and non-Cantonese speakers. <strong>The</strong>re will also be enoughelective classes <strong>for</strong> Cantonese and non-Cantonese speakers to choose.What is the difference between research postgraduate and taught postgraduate programmes?Our research postgraduate programmes have more veteran pr<strong>of</strong>essors who excel in scholarly studies, whileour taught postgraduate programmes have more part-time teachers with abundant working experience in theindustry. <strong>The</strong>ir suitability to you depends on your interests and career goals.For in<strong>for</strong>mation, the CUHK’s research programmes focus mainly on research work and require applicants tohave sound research background. Students need to submit a thesis and pass the oral defence conducted bythe <strong>The</strong>sis Assessment Committee in order to graduate. <strong>Taught</strong> programmes, in contrast, focus oncoursework. <strong>The</strong>se programmes generally do not require students to submit a thesis.
