<strong>Planai</strong>. <strong>The</strong> stage for international sports.On 4 February 2013 the FIS fanfare rang out to mark the official opening of the biggest sportsspectacle in Schladming since 1982: <strong>The</strong> FIS Alpine Ski WC 2013. <strong>The</strong> spotlight of the internationalsporting world was on Schladming, where the cream of the world's skiers had gathered to vie for gold.Two weeks packed with tension, athletic highlights and excitement – Schladming was hosting theworld. <strong>The</strong> preceding years were shaped by this event. <strong>The</strong>re was feverish construction activity notjust in Schladming but throughout the region from which visiting skiers in particular will benefit overthe coming years.<strong>The</strong> following projects were executed ahead of the event:- Planet <strong>Planai</strong>: <strong>The</strong> state-of-the-art valley station building and headquarters of <strong>Planai</strong>-<strong>Hochwurzen</strong>-Bahnen GmbH.- WC-Park <strong>Planai</strong>: One of Europe's most cutting-edge underground car parks directlyalongside the valley station building with 400 parking spaces and a host of innovative ideasfor a relaxing start to a day's skiing.- Investment in snowmaking equipment, further improving efficiency.- Widening of a range of pistes.- <strong>The</strong> eight-seater Märchenwiese and Mitterhaus chair<strong>lift</strong>sPhoto caption: <strong>The</strong> projects which commanded the lion's share of the WC investment: Planet <strong>Planai</strong>with the WC-Park <strong>Planai</strong>Credit: ikarus.cc (2), printing free of charge.
