Here, he shares the group’s experiences and how the visits havebrought the GCSE syllabus to life.Our group really enjoyed their visit to Berlin, it was a fun way to study Historyand to experience the culture of another European nation and allowed themto practise their German. This experience has helped bring to life the studentsstudy of National Socialism and the Cold War, that they had studied as part oftheir GCSE course.Highlights of our visit included:Sachsenhausen Concentration CampThis visit brings home the true brutality of the National Socialist regime.Visit to the Stasi PrisonWe were taken around by a former DDR citizen who had contemplated tryingto escape from this regime. The experience of what the communist regimehad perpetrated on their own citizens was truly thought provoking.DDR Museum in BerlinThis visit was really interesting and interactive, it helped bring to life acountry with the way it was run and behaved. We coupled this with a visit toBernauer Strasse and the Wall Museum.Visit to the Wannsee VillaA truly chilling visit as this was the site where Heydrich oversaw the decisionto implement the Final Solution.Sachsenhausen Concentration CampOur guide, Steven Rawcliffe was superb. His subject knowledge wasexcellent, his manner superb and he made the whole trip flow smoothly andmost enjoyably. This was the second year that Steve guided us, he handledall them local transport arrangements and was always very helpful withsuggestions to add to our itinerary.50
