College-wide Geton BoardMrs. Yvonne Foster and other counselorsand dedicated members of the BishopState family hosted the first college-wide“Get On Board” at Baker-Gaines CentralCampus on October 7. <strong>Student</strong> clubsand organizations were present, andgood food and music were enjoyed byeveryone.BLOOD DRIVEThe annual blood drive was heldOctober 11 on Main Campus. We continueto encourage the Bishop State familyto help save lives by giving blood. Twenty-threepints of blood were collected byLifeSouth Community Blood Center thisyear. With LifeSouth, the blood collectedin the community stays in the community!STATEWIDE HIV/STDPROJECTBishop State Community College joinedforces with the Mobile County Health Departmentin the fight against HIV/STDs.Bishop State is among several collegesthroughout the state participating in astudy that is dedicated to significantly decreaseor completely diminish the numberof reported cases.Eighty-five students were tested on theMain Campus, 17 students on the Baker-GainesCentral Campus, 47 on theCarver Campus and 53 on the SouthwestCampus, reaching our goal of testingmore than 200 students during the 2010-<strong>2011</strong> Academic Year.Kendra Cage, Derricka Smith, and Kinisha Lott (l-R)The week of February 20 – 24 was Homecoming. From Gospelfest, Green and Gold Day,the Fashion Show, Homecoming Election, College Transfer Day, Talent Show, Black HistoryObservance to the Annual Smack Down, Block Party, and Pep Rally, the college wason an exciting roll. The culmination of all these activities included Homecoming gamesbetween Bishop State and Enterprise-Ozark Community College. The half-time of themen’s game featured the announcement and presentation of the Homecoming Court.They were: Miss Varsity, Lynda Klyce • 2nd Attendant, Kendra Cage • 1st Attendant,Kinisha Lott, and Miss Homecoming <strong>2011</strong>, Derricka Smith.Keep your ears open as we will soon announce the date of the Mr. and Miss Bishop StateCommunity College Pageant.PRESIDENT’SOUTSTANDINGSTUDENT AWARDEffective Spring Semester <strong>2011</strong>, the JamesBrowning Allen Outstanding <strong>Student</strong> Award,formerly named after the late Senator JamesB. Allen, was changed to The President’sOutstanding <strong>Student</strong> Award. This award ispresented annually to the member of thegraduating class who meets the criteria of awell-rounded college student, as determinedby the selection committee.The award recipient from the <strong>2011</strong> graduatingclass was Crystal Gable. Miss Gablecompleted her studies in Civil EngineeringTechnology at the Southwest Campus.
