<strong>VT</strong> Field GuideDoor Identification:<strong>VT</strong> doors are identified by a permanentlyaffixed label on the top rail ofeach door. Fire labels are placed on thehinge stile, unless hardware prohibitsit; in that case, the fire label will also beplaced on the top rail. Should you havea question regarding one of your doors,please refer to the door information onthe top rail before calling the factory.This will allow our Customer ServiceRepresentatives to assist you more easily.See back page for example ID label.Do not remove ID labels fromdoors.Door Inspection:123Inspect all doors for freight damageimmediately upon receipt.Note identification numbers ofany damaged doors on deliveryticket before signing. Failure todo so may result in refusal ofclaim.All doors should be inspectedfor manufacturing flaws prior tofield finishing and/or installation.Any claims must be made prior tohanging doors.Upon receipt of any claims, <strong>VT</strong>will acknowledge in writing toassure prompt evaluation andhandling.Storage & Handling:1Doors must always be stored flatand in clean or dry surroundings.Protect from dirt, water, andabuse.Doors shall not be exposed toexcessive moisture, heat, dryness,or direct light. Protect the entireface of the door from light toavoid color changes to portionsof the face. Buildings wherehumidity and temperatureare controlled provide thebest storage facilities (recommendedconditions are 30-50%Relative Humidity and 50-90° F).2 334Doors must always be handledwith clean hands or while wearingclean gloves.Doors must be lifted and carried,not dragged across one another.Field-Finished WoodVeneer Doors:Field finisher is completely responsiblefor finished appearance of wooddoors or panels. <strong>VT</strong> warranty does notapply to appearance of field-finisheddoors. The following recommendationsare made to assist the field finisher.12Prior to finishing, ensure that thebuilding atmosphere is dried to a normal,interior relative humidity. Ensurethat the doors have been allowed toequalize to a stable moisture content.Prior to finishing, remove allhandling marks, raised grain andother undesirable blemishes bycompletely block or power sandingall surfaces with a 100-150fine-grit sandpaper. Place doorsin a horizontal position and sandwith the grain of the wood. Ifany undesirable reactions orproblems arise, stop finishingand notify your door supplierimmediately.456789Certain species of wood, particularlyoak, contain chemicals whichreact unfavorably with certainfinishes causing dark stain spots.Where possible, the species/finishcombination should be tested priorto finishing the doors. Notify yourfinish supplier or door supplierimmediately if any undesirablereaction is noticed. Do not continuewith the finishing until theproblem is resolved.In order not to induce warpage,avoid dark stains or dark-coloredpaints on door surfaces. Exposure tosunlight or artificial Light can causewarpage.In order to prevent blemish magnification,avoid extremely dark stainson light-colored wood species.Top and bottom rails are factorysealed on all Heritage flush wooddoors. No additional sealing isrequired unless field-trimmed inheight.To achieve the desired results ofcolor uniformity, finish build, gloss,and to reduce the frequency ofrefinishing,obtain and follow finishmanufacturer’s recommendations.Be sure the door surface beingfinished is satisfactory in bothsmoothness and color after eachcoat before you apply the nextcoat.Never remove fire label fromthe hinge stile of a door.2
