September 1866Robbery at <strong>Nailsea</strong>Frederick Caple was charged with stealing a gun belonging to Mr Davis of theRoyal Oak, <strong>Nailsea</strong>. The prisoner had been in the service of the prosecutor butleft a few days previously, when he returned to fetch his clothes. After he hadleft, Mr Davis missed his gun from the malt room <strong>and</strong> obtained a search warrantwith which P.C. Chamberlain visited the home of the prisoner’s father atWrington, <strong>and</strong> found the gun hidden under straw in an outhouse. The prisonerwho had been previously convicted, was committed for trial at the next QuarterSessions.MilitariaSummerell Family WW1by Richard CornishI have medals for Charles James Summerell who was in the <strong>Nailsea</strong> R.E. exceptthat he does not seem to have served with them in France. I note he was aBlacksmith <strong>and</strong> that his father was A Summerell who was the village blacksmithin <strong>Nailsea</strong> 1915/1916 <strong>and</strong> who received written appreciation from the WarDept. for the 1550 shoes he had made for mules <strong>and</strong> the hundreds he hadmade for horses. At that time the L<strong>and</strong>lord of the Bird in H<strong>and</strong> was W.Summerell.(Ed. The "e" isincorrect) i.e. the William Henry Lock who was mentioned in Pennant 20.
