ِأJoint MaddThe Rule:If <strong>the</strong> letter of natural madd ي , , is followed by a hamza in <strong>the</strong>same word, <strong>the</strong>n you should prol<strong>on</strong>g <strong>the</strong> sound of <strong>the</strong> madd letter to 4or 5 haraka. This is c<strong>all</strong>ed madd muttasil or joint madd and it iscompulsory to prol<strong>on</strong>g it. The sign of madd will be written above <strong>the</strong>letter of madd in <strong>the</strong> Quran text as in:وھَنِيٓ َٔ ا ِء– ٓو سُ سَآئِ ٌل–يَتَسَآ ءَلُو َن جَآ َء ۡ ٱل مَلَٰٓٮٕ كَ ُة ٱلسَّآ ٮِٕ َلمَآ ًء جَآ ۡ ءَتہُ ُم شَآ َء عَآ ٮٕ ِالًجَزَ آ ًء جِاْ ٓى َء يُرَ آ ُء و َن حُنَفَآ َءِ َق حَ دَآ ٮٕ جَآ ءَ ُه ٱلشِّتَآ ِء غُثَآ ًءِ ُرٱلسَّرَ آ ٮٕ جَآ ءَ ِت أھوَآ ءكم ھَنِ ٓي َٔاسُ ٓو َء ٱألَرَ آ ٮٕ سِ ٓي َٔ ۡت يَشَآ َءِ ِك

Separated Madd lRule:If <strong>the</strong> letter of madd comes at <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> word and is followed by aword <strong>that</strong> starts with hamza, <strong>the</strong>n this is c<strong>all</strong>ed madd munfaisl(separated). It is c<strong>all</strong>ed separated madd because it occurs in 2 separatewords. The madd letter comes at <strong>the</strong> end of a word and <strong>the</strong> hamzacomes at <strong>the</strong> beginning of <strong>the</strong> following word. The separated madd isalso c<strong>all</strong>ed permissible madd because it is your choice to prol<strong>on</strong>g it for 2,4 or 5 haraka. Examples of this rule is found in <strong>the</strong>se words:–أمَن َّا ٓوا قَالُ أَكۡ رَمَ ِن ٓى رَب ِّ أُنزِل بمآ -Separate Maddالَ ٓ إِلَٰهَ إِالَّ ٱَّ ُ يَدَآ أَبِى وَ الَ ٓ أَنتُ ۡممَآ أَغۡ نَ ٰى وَ الَ ٓ أَنَا مَآ أَعۡ بُ ُدوَ أَحۡ سِ نُ ٓو اْ إِ َّن الَ تَعۡ تَدُ ٓو ا إِ َّن ءَامَنُ ٓو اْ أَشَ ُّد۟ ىعَذَابَهُ أَحَ ٌد وَ ثَاقَهُ أَحَ ٌد فِ ٓى أَ ِّىٓوٓوبِهِ إِالَ فِ ٓى ءَاذَانِہِم بِهِ أَذًۦ◌ۤ ◌ٓۦ◌ۤ ◌ٓ
