Kicking Off Cowboy Christmas - Barrel Racing Report

With the Fourth Of July falling right in the middle of the week 

on a Wednesday this year, it split up the Fourth run for the pro 

barrel racers. The fi rst part of the Fourth included a handful of US 

rodeos along with several very lucrative rodeos in Canada. Each 

year this Fourth run catapults several ladies up the standings and 

puts them in contention for a world title. 

In fact, last year (2011) Lindsay Sears was the high money winner 

of the Fourth with $23,838 in earnings which pushed her within 

$40,000 of the World leader at that time. Of course by the end of 

the year she had claimed the World Championship. Sears was also 

the high money winner of the Fourth in 2010 as well. This year for 

the fi rst half of the Fourth, Carlee Pierce is the leader with earnings 

of $14,544, next is Canadian Cranna Roberts with $10,345, third is 

Sherry Cervi with $9,074 in earnings, fourth high earner is Brittany 

Pozzi with $8,058, and in fi fth place is Sydni Blanchard with $6,459 

in earnings. Of course there is still more Cowboy Christmas to 

come! 

The WPRA World Pro Rodeo standings haven’t been updated to 

including Ponoka or Williams Lake, but as of July 3, 2012 Carlee 

Pierce is leading the World with $98,472 in earnings. Interestingly 

enough last year at this time Brittany Pozzi led the world with 

$98,782 in earnings. Currently she is in second just a few thousand 

behind Pierce. However, 

when the Ponoka earnings 

are added in Pierce 

will add several thousand 

dollars more between 

herself and Pozzi. 

Over the past couple 

weeks, Lindsay Sears 

has been popping up in 

the results and is slowly 

moving within striking 

distance of Pierce and 

Pozzi, just a little over 

$26k behind. This week 

alone she has placed 

on both Martha (Sugar 

Moon Express) and Moe 

(Ima Guy Of Honor). 

She and her team of 

horses look to be fi ring 

on all cylinders for the 

rest of the Fourth run. It 

will be interesting to see

Carlee Pierce and Rare Dillion are having a very lucrative trip 

across the border. She won over $14k at Ponoka alone and won 

over $10k at Innisfail just a couple weeks ago. She took over the 

world lead a couple weeks ago from Pozzi and has slowly been 

increasing it. 

With the big money left to be handed out at all the big US rodeos 

over the next few days, it is sure to give the World Standings a shake 

up. Will the leaders keep on dominating....or will there be some new 

players coming on to the scene? Stay tuned for the next week!

Youth World Barrel Racing Challenge 2012

In May of 2011, NG Productions held the 1st WBRC Youth East 

vs. West Team Barrel Racing Challenge in Perry, GA. This inaugural 

event brought a new level of excitement to the world of barrel 

racing. Kids from throughout the US traveled to be a part of this 

great event. When all was said and done, Team East took home the 

WBRC 2011 Championship Title along with $5,000 each for the 10 

members. 

The 2012 event was moved to Karnack, TX and held in conjunction 

with Martha and RE Joseys Jr World barrel race. This helped to 

even the traveling distance and kids could pay one stall and RV fee 

and compete at 2 great events. 

Thursday afternoon at the wonderful Josey Ranch was busy busy 

busy. Competitors getting their exhibitions in and getting outfi tted 

in Cinch and Cruel Girl competition wear. Once they collected 

their competition wear and Custom Team Dazzle Rock Concho, 

they each headed to the Lifewave booth. John Chance provided 

a complementary evaluation for all the horses competing in the 

WBRC. Many of these horses were “patched up” to improve their 

performance. The entries were verifi ed complete and the draw was 

posted. Thirty Team West and twenty three Team East competitors 

fought it out to determine the Top Ten on each team that would 

compete for the $55,000 on Sunday afternoon. When the fi nal 

horse crossed the fi nish line, the following earned the right to go 

for the big money:

So the Teams were set. Team East members had qualifi ed on less 

than perfect runs and knew they had to have a plan to have any 

chance against the strength of the Team West qualifying runs. Total 

of all 10 qualifying runs per team looked like this: East 168.507 and 

West 164.801. A four second spread meant the east had to bring it 

on and the west had to stay solid. 

Sunday morning the kids gathered around and pulled their own 

draw number, and then the buzz began. 

Riders had to decide which horse to run. Many of the competitor’s 

main horses were out for the weekend due to injuries and they 

were depending on backup mounts to pull them through. Plotting 

and planning was all over and now the only thing to do was ride 

smart, go fast and keep it clean. 

Team West member Meghan Welch started it off, a 16.216 that 

was .3 faster than her qualifying run, the heat was on. Because 

the draw was random, it was impossible to keep up with who was 

ahead. A fast run from the east was always answered with another 

fast run from the west. The atmosphere in the arena was unreal. 

It was Friday night football at a barrel race. The eastern folks who 

were not in the race stayed around to cheer on their team as did the 

west. Dustin Angelle crossed the time line at draw number 20 and 

it was time to add, re-add and re-verifi ed. Jeanette Nelson, founder 

of the WBRC, made the announcement that by only a difference of 

.141, the WBRC Championship Title would remain in the East. 

The Champion Team was determined by dropping the slowest 2 

times and totaling the reaming 8 for a total team time (a hit barrel 

carried a plus 5 per barrel). Team East total time was 131.038 and 

Team West total time was 131.170. What a race. Each member of 

Team East received $5000 each along with a nice prize package. 

Team West members received $500 each along with the same prize 

package. All competitors in the event received a prize package from 

our wonderful sponsors. 

Blaise Bercegeay received a custom Circle Y Headstall with custom 

silver WBRC Conchos for the fastest qualifying time for Team 

East. Wyatt Grace Andrews received a custom Circle Y Headstall 

with silver WBRC for the fastest qualifying time for Team West. 

In the fi nals, a Circle Y saddle was awarded to the contestant with 

the fastest time. This saddle was presented to Wyatt Grace Andrews 

of Team West. A Dazzle Rock Custom WBRC Headstall and Breast 

Collar was presented to the fastest member of the opposite team, 

this award was presented to JR Sullivan. 

All competitors received Cinch and Cruel Girls jeans and competition 

shirts. Other awards were provided by: Classic Equine, Dazzle 

Rock Tack, Carolina Reins and Circle Y Saddlery. Other sponsors

2011 Barrel Racing Report Barrel Horses of the Year 

After tallying thousands of votes, they are here, the 2011 Barrel 

Racing Report Barrel Horses of the Year. It was another amazing 

year for Barrel Racing, spectacular runs, arena records set and broken, 

and big checks written at barrel races throughout the country 

all done with the help our equine partners. The Barrel Racing 

Report wanted to honor those who made the year so great. 

We’d like to thank you all for your participation in our third year 

of voting. We also would like to say thank you to the committee for 

their skillful help. The voting was based 50% on popular and 50% 

on committee. Through the combined efforts of the barrel racing 

community we have brought you a select group of barrel horses, 

their jockeys and owners.

Seis So Sweet was defi nitely a sweet ride for rider Lance Graves 

and owners Bruce & Connie Vansickle in 2011. Seis So Sweet was 

like a dairy farm in 2011 pulling in a check about every couple 

weeks! Her biggest accomplishments of the year however; was winning 

the Old Fort Days Futurity and cashing the $55,909 paycheck, 

she also won the 2011 All American Congress Junior Barrels and 

the Hawki Futurity to just name a few of her wins. She was the 

Reserve World Champion at the AQHA World Show in Junior Barrels 

as well. Interestingly enough, her sire, Tres Seis, also sired the 

AQHA Racing World Champion 2 Year Old Ochoa in 2011. Seis 

So Sweet’s consistent brilliance netted her owners well over $80k in 

earnings for 2011.

the BFA Futurity earning $11,313. Kiss This Guy gave impressive 

performances in Open races as well. He ran the fastest time at the 

Jud Little Barrel Bash and won the UWinmore Anniversary race in 

Glen Rose, TX. Kiss This Guy is now owned by Carlee Pierce of 

Stephenville, TX who is currently leading the World Standings.

707 Futurity Consolation (2nd), Old Fort Days Futurity (7th), Jud 

Little Ranch Bar Nothin Barrel Bash Futurity (1st in 2nd Go) and 

the WPRA Finals Futurity Slot Race (3rd) to name a few. Along 

with this he placed and won at the big 4Ds and rodeos as well. Slick 

By Design by Designer Red is destined to carry on the legacy of

They’ve also won and placed at numerous NBHA shows. The bay 

roan mare, owned by Larry Ammons & Steve McDonald, was also 

part of Team East at the World Barrel Racing Challenge in Perry, 

GA winning $5,000 for her performance. Fame Fling N Bling has 

lifetime earnings in excess of $60,000 and continues to fi nd herself 

in the winners circle. Together, with her 20 year old jockey Sarah 

McDonald, this young team has a long barrel racing career in front 

of them.

with Flannery. His biggest win of the year came in September at 

the Roper Rally Futurity & Slot Race. Docs Streakin Oak won the

hats on the Flannery Ranch, son Jacob won the 5-State Pole 

Futurity and placed 2nd at the Roper Pole Futurity in 2011.

of racing and barrel brilliance that his sire throws to his foals. 

Streaking Ta Fame won the PacWest Barrel Futurity Championship, 

placed 3rd at the 9th Annual Beth Cooper Memorial, and placed 

6th in the Old Fort Days Consolation. He now stands at Texoma 

Quarter Horses and is looking to produce winners of his own now.

Over the last few years, it seems like every other week Sx Dr 

Peacharita and jockey Brian Wheeler came across the results. 

Owned by Stephanie Wheeler, Peach (as she is better known) has 

taken Brian to the winner’s circle at many of the biggest Open 4Ds 

and Derbies in the country. In 2011, she was on Team East for 

the World Barrel Racing Challenge pulling in $5k for helping the 

winning team, placed 4th in the Senior Barrel Racing at the AQHA 

World Show, won the Youth at the BFA World Championships, 

placed 4th in the 1st Go and 3rd in the 2nd Go of the NBHA 

World Championships, and placed at many other shows along the 

way. This her second year in a row for winning the Open 4D Mare 

Champion, as she was the 2010 Open 4D Mare. Her lifetime earnings 

are well in excess of $150,000. Wheeler and Peach actually just 

won the All American Youth race just last weekend, so this pair is 

still on their winning streak!

It’s no surprise to see JL Dash Ta Heaven in Championship 

standing as a Barrel Horse of the Year. The 2005 sorrel stallion 

owned by the Jud Little Ranch has won honors in 2009 as Champion 

4-Year-Old Stallion and in 2010 as Champion 5-Year-Old 

Stallion. In 2011, JL Dash Ta Heaven pulled double duty in the 

arena. He competed with jockey Benette Barrington-Little all across 

the nation at Pro Rodeos and also with jockey Ashley Nelson at 

the BBR World Finals and the Old Fort Days Derby. With Nelson, 

he set an arena record at the BBR World Finals running a blazing 

14.881 in the State Fair Coliseum against a tough group of contenders. 

This was one of many arena records JL Dash Ta Heaven owns 

throughout the country. His rodeo career was just as impressive. 

With Barrington-Little aboard the team won the NILE, American 

Royal, Old Fort Days and Springdale Pro Rodeos along with numerous 

other placings. Currently, Barrington-Little and JL Dash Ta 

Heaven sit 4th in the World Standings.

In the Rodeo Horse division, it came down to a very familiar 

name, Sugar Moon Express, better known as Martha and owner/ 

rider Lindsay Sears. This famous team cruised to their 2nd World 

Championship in 2011 using a super consistent NFR to win the 

Average and bag the World Title. The pair has also been the Reserve 

World Champion twice in the past. There aren’t many rodeos the 

pair hasn’t won on their way to over $1.6 million in lifetime earnings. 

After overcoming a potentially career ending injury from the 

2010 NFR, the team showed up at Reno in the early summer of 

2011, pulled a check and from there on it was Martha being Martha. 

The team placed at rodeos like Ponoka, Cody, Livingston, Cheyenne, 

Spanish Fork, and Puyallup throughout the year. Sears and 

Martha ended up with earnings of $238,864 for 2011 along with 

winnings at Calgary. This year Sears and Martha sit #3 in the World 

with earnings of $72,418.

Headin’ For Home 

You see and hear a lot about “bailout packages” in the news 

nowadays. The bailouts supposedly will rescue banks, big 

business and whole countries from going bankrupt and having 

no future. 

But, stop and think about it. Jesus was the ultimate bailout package. 

Without Him we would lead bankrupt lives with no glorious 

future awaiting us! Jesus paid our debt with His own life. Romans 

5:8 tells us that, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that 

while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” 

If you were about to lose your vehicle or your house because 

you couldn’t make the payments and foreclosure was indicated, you 

would be thrilled beyond words if someone stepped up and made 

the payments for you. That person bailed you out and you would 

be so grateful that you couldn’t thank them enough. You’d probably 

stay in touch with your deliverer and try to show your gratitude and 

appreciation in any way you could.
