Youth World Barrel Racing Challenge 2012 Courtesy of World Barrel Racing Challenge In May of 2011, NG Productions held the 1st WBRC Youth East vs. West Team Barrel Racing Challenge in Perry, GA. This inaugural event brought a new level of excitement to the world of barrel racing. Kids from throughout the US traveled to be a part of this great event. When all was said and done, Team East took home the WBRC 2011 Championship Title along with $5,000 each for the 10 members. The 2012 event was moved to Karnack, TX and held in conjunction with Martha and RE Joseys Jr World barrel race. This helped to even the traveling distance and kids could pay one stall and RV fee and compete at 2 great events. Thursday afternoon at the wonderful Josey Ranch was busy busy busy. Competitors getting their exhibitions in and getting outfi tted in Cinch and Cruel Girl competition wear. Once they collected their competition wear and Custom Team Dazzle Rock Concho, they each headed to the Lifewave booth. John Chance provided a complementary evaluation for all the horses competing in the WBRC. Many of these horses were “patched up” to improve their performance. The entries were verifi ed complete and the draw was posted. Thirty Team West and twenty three Team East competitors fought it out to determine the Top Ten on each team that would compete for the $55,000 on Sunday afternoon. Team East members had qualifi ed on less than perfect runs and knew they had to have a plan to have any chance against the strength of the Team West qualifying runs. Total of all 10 qualifying runs per team looked like this: East 168.507 and West 164.801. A four second spread meant the east had to bring it on and the west had to stay solid. Sunday morning the kids gathered around and pulled their own draw number, and then the buzz began. Riders had to decide which horse to run. Many of the competitor’s main horses were out for the weekend due to injuries and they were depending on backup mounts to pull them through. Plotting and planning was all over and now the only thing to do was ride smart, go fast and keep it clean. Team West member Meghan Welch started it off, a 16.216 that was .3 faster than her qualifying run, the heat was on. Because the draw was random, it was impossible to keep up with who was ahead. A fast run from the east was always answered with another fast run from the west. The atmosphere in the arena was unreal. It was Friday night football at a barrel race. The eastern folks who were not in the race stayed around to cheer on their team as did the west. Dustin Angelle crossed the time line at draw number 20 and it was time to add, re-add and re-verifi ed. Jeanette Nelson, founder of the WBRC, made the announcement that by only a difference of .141, the WBRC Championship Title would remain in the East. The Champion Team was determined by dropping the slowest 2 times and totaling the reaming 8 for a total team time (a hit barrel carried a plus 5 per barrel). Team East total time was 131.038 and Team West total time was 131.170. What a race. Each member of Team East received $5000 each along with a nice prize package. Team West members received $500 each along with the same prize package. All competitors in the event received a prize package from our wonderful sponsors. Blaise Bercegeay received a custom Circle Y Headstall with custom silver WBRC Conchos for the fastest qualifying time for Team East. Wyatt Grace Andrews received a custom Circle Y Headstall with silver WBRC for the fastest qualifying time for Team West. In the fi nals, a Circle Y saddle was awarded to the contestant with the fastest time. This saddle was presented to Wyatt Grace Andrews of Team West. A Dazzle Rock Custom WBRC Headstall and Breast Collar was presented to the fastest member of the opposite team, this award was presented to JR Sullivan. All competitors received Cinch and Cruel Girls jeans and competition shirts. Other awards were provided by: Classic Equine, Dazzle Rock Tack, Carolina Reins and Circle Y Saddlery. Champions of 2011 Are Crowned 2011 Barrel Racing Report Barrel Horses of the Year After tallying thousands of votes, they are here, the 2011 Barrel Racing Report Barrel Horses of the Year. It was another amazing year for Barrel Racing, spectacular runs, arena records set and broken, and big checks written at barrel races throughout the country all done with the help our equine partners. The Barrel Racing Report wanted to honor those who made the year so great. We’d like to thank you all for your participation in our third year of voting. We also would like to say thank you to the committee for their skillful help. The voting was based 50% on popular and 50% on committee. Through the combined efforts of the barrel racing community we have brought you a select group of barrel horses, their jockeys and owners. We would like to thank all the owners and riders of barrel horses across the country for their contribution to the industry we all love and enjoy. We salute the 2011 Champions, they are a select group of horses that have earned their honors by competing at the toughest barrel races in the country. Congratulations to the 2011 Champions and all those who were nominated! Four Year Old Mare CHAMPION: SEIS SO SWEET 07 buck. f. Tres Seis-Stella D Oro, Takin On The Cash owner Bruce & Connie Vansickle, Nashport, OH rider Lance Graves Seis So Sweet was defi nitely a sweet ride for rider Lance Graves and owners Bruce & Connie Vansickle in 2011. Seis So Sweet was like a dairy farm in 2011 pulling in a check about every couple weeks! Her biggest accomplishments of the year however; was winning the Old Fort Days Futurity and cashing the $55,909 paycheck, she also won the 2011 All American Congress Junior Barrels and the Hawki Futurity to just name a few of her wins. She was the Reserve World Champion at the AQHA World Show in Junior Barrels as well. Interestingly enough, her sire, Tres Seis, also sired the AQHA Racing World Champion 2 Year Old Ochoa in 2011. Seis So Sweet’s consistent brilliance netted her owners well over $80k in earnings for 2011. RESERVE CHAMPION: GUYS FAMOUS GIRL, Angela Gilliam, Macy Quintanilla 07 g. f. Frenchmans Guy-Disarray, Dash Ta Fame Four Year Old Gelding CHAMPION: KISS THIS GUY 07 ch. g. BHR Frenchies Socks-Kiss Kiss This, Chain of Events trainer/rider/owner: Ryann Pedone, TX Champion Kiss This Guy is no stranger to the winners circle. His year included some big wins including the Cornhusker Futurity and the JB Quarter Horses Futurity. Trainer, rider and owner Ryann Pedone rode Kiss This Guy to numerous other wins including a reserve Championship at the WPRA Futurity. Pedone and Kiss This Guy earned an amazing $85,000+ including a 4th place fi nish at the BFA Futurity earning $11,313. Kiss This Guy gave impressive performances in Open races as well. He ran the fastest time at the Jud Little Barrel Bash and won the UWinmore Anniversary race in Glen Rose, TX. Kiss This Guy is now owned by Carlee Pierce of Stephenville, TX who is currently leading the World Standings. RESERVE CHAMPION: HM CORNERSTONE, Kebo Almond, Johnny Kight 07 bay g. Docs Gettin Reckless-Bashful Dash, Royal Quick Dash Four Year Old Stallion CHAMPION: SLICK BY DESIGN 07 bl. s. Designer Red-Dreams of Blue, Dream On Dancer rider: Kim Ulbricht, owner: Allene Tatom The jet black Slick By Design consistently cruised to fast times and big winnings throughout 2011 with rider Kim Ulbricht for owner Allene Tatom. In April of 2011, he started out by winning the BFA Spring Classic Slot Race and throughout the year he kept winning and placing against the best. He placed at BBR Formula 707 Futurity Consolation (2nd), Old Fort Days Futurity (7th), Jud Little Ranch Bar Nothin Barrel Bash Futurity (1st in 2nd Go) and the WPRA Finals Futurity Slot Race (3rd) to name a few. Along with this he placed and won at the big 4Ds and rodeos as well. Slick By Design by Designer Red is destined to carry on the legacy of grandsire On The Money Red showing his patented toughness and consistency. RESERVE CHAMPION: WANTA BE FAMOUS, Sharin Hall, Carole Lampron 07 bay. s. Dash Ta Fame-Sheza Go For Sure, Heza Go For Three Five Year Old Mare CHAMPION: FAME FLING N BLING 06 bay. rn. m. A Streak of Fling-Short Penny, Dash Ta Fame rider: Sarah McDonald owners: Larry Ammons & Steve McDonald Fame Fling N Bling earned her Championship title in 2011 traveling all across the Southeast. With rider Sarah McDonald, she has won major events including the All-American Youth Barrel Race in Jackson, MS. There the duo earned a whopping $8,000. They’ve also won and placed at numerous NBHA shows. The bay roan mare, owned by Larry Ammons & Steve McDonald, was also part of Team East at the World Barrel Racing Challenge in Perry, GA winning $5,000 for her performance. Fame Fling N Bling has lifetime earnings in excess of $60,000 and continues to fi nd herself in the winners circle. Together, with her 20 year old jockey Sarah McDonald, this young team has a long barrel racing career in front of them. RESERVE CHAMPION: GUYS CHAMPAGNE GIRL, Cami Bauer, Bill & Debbie Myers 06 pal m. Frenchmans Guy-Hot Brandi N Wine, Hot Colours Five Year Old Gelding CHAMPION: DOCS STREAKIN OAK 06 s. g. A Streak of Fling-Miss Geminy Oak, Docs Oak owner/rider/trainer: Samantha Flannery, Flannery Barrel Horses Docs Streakin Oak has been a standout for owner, rider and trainer Samantha Flannery of Mission, SD. In 2011, he had earnings over $20,000 including placings at the Dash and Dance Futurity, Cornhusker Breeders Futurity, Fizz Bomb Futurity, Roper Rally, Hawki & Roper Apparel Futurity.
